I love me some autumn and winter appropriate fabrics. Anything tweed, check, plaid, it all makes me really like this time of year when the dreary British weather can make it so much easier to dislike it. Finding swing dresses, rather than wiggles, in those fabrics can be harder, which is why I was excited when I came across the Tiger-Lilly dress by Voodoo Vixen.

Featuring a flared swing skirt, half sleeves, matching fabric belt, pockets, and a wide collar and button combination detail, this dress is a great piece for cooler weather.

This is such a great dress for work appropriate wear or any other more conservative event, as well as anytime you feel like being ladylike and timeless. Throw on your seamed stockings,  a vintage head piece and your best little booties and it’s easy to be both stylish and seasonably appropriate in this dress. I almost never feel comfortable in a vintage style dress without wearing a petticoat underneath but I didn’t feel that way in this dress; I actually thought the cut was really slimming and flattering exactly as it is, although you can fit a short, slim petticoat underneath this dress should you wish to.

The houndstooth pattern on this dress is actually flocked, so it has a risen velvety texture to the fabric. The collar and edges of the belt and pockets are piped, giving it a really polished, finished feel, and the collar is sturdy so it sits up in placve rather than flopping about or accidentally getting caught in the top of your dress in the back or up under your hair. I love that Voodoo Vixen include pockets in their swing dresses more often than not these days and these pockets in particular are great for how deep they are, easily fitting my iPhone 6 and it’s additional battery pack case without risk of it falling out the side as I move around.

When it came to sizing I chose my usual XL from Voodoo Vixen. They size quite generously and this dress is unlined so I found this dress runs a little larger than the size charts suggest. This XL measures 17.5inches flat, 35 inches round, and I stretched it out flat to 19.5inches, so you might have to size down on the size chart if you like a really tight fit or you’re between sizes.
