Florals at Christmas [Lady V London]

Floral prints are typically associated with spring and summer clothing, understandably. There’s some gorgeous flowers that are favourites for autumn and winter though, like poppies and poinsettias, so I’ve often wondered why it isn’t more common to find floral prints for the colder seasons that feature these flowers. At the very least, it wouldn’t be so hard to create a floral print in darker, autumnal colours that would work well through the end of the year, even if the flowers featured in them aren’t technically winter bloomers.

Well, Lady V London have fulfilled my yearning for a winter floral with their limited edition Christmas Floral Print Lyra dress. The Lyra dress is actually a key bestseller piece from Lady Voluptuous, Lady V London’s plus sized range designed in collaboration with Georgina of Fuller Figure Fuller Bust, with all designs available in UK sizes 16 to 30/32. The Lyra dress in particular makes for a perfect Christmas outfit not just because of this gorgeous seasonal floral, but also because it’s so damn comfortable to wear. Whether you’re hosting a dinner party for friends, busting a move at the office work do’ or eating your way through the house on Christmas day itself, Lyra has got you covered in style and comfort.

Dress: Christmas Floral Print Lyra dress C/O Lady V London
Brooch: Old season ASOS
Heels: Old season New Look

As soon as I first saw pictures of this Christmas Floral print I was smitten, and I was so pleased to find that it’s just as beautiful in person. The moody yet festive mix of the burgundy, olive, cream and dark green is a winter dream to me, though I can imagine wearing this all year round, and certainly not just around Christmas.

Proudly made in London, the Lyra dress has a crossover style bust and a sash that ties in the back to accentuate your waist. The full length sleeves add extra warmth as well as upper arm coverage for the self-conscious. There are no buttons or zips to fasten this piece as the stretch of the unlined Jersey fabric itself is all you need to pop this dress on over your head and shimmy it into place. It’s got a flared skirt that will accommodate a slim to medium volume petticoat to create a slightly flared vintage look if you’re committed to a full skirt, as I’ve worn above. Otherwise it drapes nicely from the hips, perfect for ladies who don’t like to mess around with adding underskirts and extra froof. It’s machine washable, which means you can easily get as much wear as possible out of this piece over the festive period without having to rush back and forth to the dry cleaners.

As mentioned above, the stretch jersey fabric makes this dress supremely comfortable to wear and gives some wiggle room in terms of sizing, though I would say the size 16 I’m wearing is very true to size. The size chart states the exact flat measurements for this size 16 garment are 39.5 inch bust and 35 inch waist (it’s free in the hips.) My actual dress measures 34 inches flat in the waist, up to 40 inches flat stretched, allowing you to get it on without a zip. The bust is 40 inches flat and fits my 45 inch bust with some room yet to spare for ladies with a large bust. I could easily arrange the cross over bust to be more boobalicious than pictured above, but it’s a perfectly modest dress as is. If you have to size up for your bust, the ties at the waist will ensure you can still create a nipped in, flattering silhouette.

The Christmas Floral print Lyra dress is limited edition, so I wouldn’t hang around if you want to ensure you get your hands on your own. It’s available in UK sizes 16 – 30/32 and costs £45. The Lyra dress also comes in 11 other prints and 6 plain colours. Lady V London ship internationally.

  1. As a Lady V London fan, I was so curious to see how these Lyra dresses looked on some of us gals so I am SO pleased to see you posing oh so prettily in one! It’s lovely! It suits you so well and I love these colors. I think I know what I may be getting from LVL next… 😉

  2. Those dresses are gorgeous and I wish they would make them in smaller sizes as well. One year Lady Vintage had a couple of plain colored Lyras available in the full size range, but not anymore, which is a shame, because I missed them back then and would love to have one with long sleeves. They look so pretty and comfortable!
Many of the Lady Voluptuous styles would look good on women of all sizes, and in my opinion there’s no need for separate plus size range. I understand Lady Voluptuous IS a plus size range, but it would be much better if all clothes would be available for everyone regardless of their size 🙂
