I featured Louella Deville here on the blog not too long ago reviewing the delicious Iris Frenchie dress, an item that, months on, I still look forward to wearing every single time I pull it out of my wardrobe as if it’s the first debut wear. Considering my love for that dress, I’m excited to be taking a closer look at what other things the Louella Deville line has to offer, this time by way of some of their separates and one of their novelty brooches.

As Louella Deville is based in Australia, this lovely black plaid Bettie skirt is from their new Autumn/Winter line, while the Sandy wrap top is from their previously released first Spring/Summer line. Both items, though, are so simple and classic it’s easy to style them for any season and in a dozen different ways. It’s Spring here in the UK, which means adding a cropped cardigan allows me to wear this strappy top more comfortably until we’re able to get our shoulders out in summer–if we’re lucky enough this year, that is. And I know a lot of people associate plaid and tartan strictly with the colder months, but because this check is black and white I know I’ll be able to style it out throughout the entire calendar year in various ways without it looking out of season.
The most interesting thing about this outfit has got to be that the Sandy wrap top is a one size piece, something I didn’t realise until we began arranging this feature. The top ties at the shoulders with spaghetti straps, making the strap length an adjustable fit, but the rest of the top is fully customisable to fit 26-38 inch waists and 34-44 inch busts based entirely upon how tightly you tie it. To put it on, you put your arms through the shoulder straps, pull both waist ties behind your back and wrap them round the opposite side of your body, pulling the tie that originated from your right hand side through the hole in the side seam on the left. From there, you pull both ties tightly around the front of your body and tie a knot or a bow however you prefer the tie to look. That’s it! With an easy bit of tying you’ve got yourself a top that will fit you well no matter whether you fluctuate a few pounds here or there. The one note to mention is that this green version of the top runs an inch smaller than the other colours available, so if like me you have a 45 inch bust you might find this top fits you tighter in that area there than the other Sandy tops will do.
The Bettie skirt is the perfect swing skirt. Gathered, it gives great volume when layered over a petticoat, although ladies put off by heavily gathered skirts will be pleased to note this one isn’t so intensely gathered that it adds perceived weight around the hips. It’s a pinup-perfect 26 inches long and, yes, of course, it has pockets, deep lovely pockets that fit my iPhone in its bulky battery case with room to spare. This plaid version is made from a non-stretch fabric so the size chart is spot-on and you may need to size up for comfort.
Finally, there’s the adorable handmade Love Letter brooch. I’m typically not a novelty brooch lover but this little guy was too cute to pass up, so I’ll be flashing strangers my sweet little love note regularly now as I incorporate it into my outfits.
The Sandy Wrap Top is one size and comes in 13 different colours and prints, each $45AUD. The Black Plaid Tartan Bettie skirt is available in sizes 6-22 for $79AUD, or the Bettie skirt style is available in 12 other prints or colours in the same size range and cost. The Love Letter brooch costs $14, and all items are available for international shipping from Louella Deville exclusively.
