May Baby [Dolly & Dotty]

I am all about stripes. If they’re white and navy? I could not be any more about stripes, no way, no how. A striped vintage style dress is so chic and classic that it literally never goes out of style. Add in how easy it is to style a dress like that and you’re laughing. It’s surprising to no one, then, that I’m pretty loved up with this Dolly & Dotty offering that’s new in their summer range.

There’s a lot of ways this dress is universally flattering. There’s the swing dress cut that emphasises the waist and hides any potential cakey lower body sins; there’s the fact that it’s only on that swing portion of the dress that the stripes are featured, easing the mind of anyone who can never quite figure out whether they are or aren’t unflattering on their body; and there’s the V-neck bustline, which is great on pretty much everyone. It’s check marks all the way down! Plus, it’s a budget friendly dress. Double win.

This dress closes with a back zipper, which makes me endlessly happy as I can’t stand struggling with side zips. There’s plenty of room beneath the lightly gathered swing skirt for a medium fullness petticoat, so you can twirl to your heart’s content without flashing anyone accidentally. Said skirt measures 26 inches long, the perfect vintage inspired length for a day dress.

I can generally fit both 16 and 18 in Dolly and Dotty dresses as the 16 best fits my waist but the 18 best fits my bust. As my boobs were a tight fit in my striped Lana dress I decided to give them a little more breathing room this time around by opting for the 18. Consequently the dress does fit a little big on me overall, but it’s nice to have day dresses that are roomier and comfortable for days/occasions when sucking everything in and strapping it down just isn’t going to work for you. Specifically the waist on this dress flat measures 38 inches with no stretch, while the bust is 42 inches flat to 48 inches stretched, making it very true to the size chart. Following that chart should result in you finding your right size for a correct fit.

The Navy and White Stripes May dress comes in UK sizes 8-24 for £39.99. The May dress comes in multiple other prints and patterns covering the same size range, and Dolly & Dotty ship internationally, with a 10% off discount code offered to subscribers of their newsletter.
