We’re definitely in that dreary, awkward time of year–Christmas is over but winter has barely begun in earnest, so it feels a lot like there’s not much to look forward to except cold. Eventually, thank goodness, Pancake Day will give us something to be excited about, but in the meantime it’s not uncommon that at this point in January I can often feel uninspired by the notion of creating an outfit suitable for winter.
With this new Lady V dress, however, deciding on a styling was easy. I looked over the fairytale-reminiscent, wintery print, glanced out my window at the chilly, rainy sky outside, and decided in a second–faux leather, and a lot of it. Red roses might remind you of Belle or Aurora, but this queen is happy to take on the cold without a beast or a prince, just a pair of warm boots and some sass.

Made in England, Lady V London offer dresses in UK sizes 8-32 between the styles released in their mainline and their additional plus size range, Lady Voluptuous. Typically their dresses are classic, feminine, and mostly modest, so they offer a lot of options that are work appropriate, as well as plenty that make for lovely occasion pieces. If you’re a fan of the brand, you’re probably well aware of–and possibly might own several of–their Hepburn dress, one of their design staples that is released regularly in new prints and colours throughout all seasons.
One of their newest print releases is this Wonderland rose print, a pattern comprising red roses sporting white leaves set against a black background. The contrasting colour scheme makes for a wonderful winter floral design. Since the dress itself is a sleeveless cut, adding additional layers for warmth is essential this time of year, but works beautifully with that dark moody feel of the print, whether you’re opting for a cropped jacket as I have done or layers of cardigan, gloves, statement tights and a hat.
The dress shape itself is simple, sleeveless, as mentioned, with a rounded neck and a flared swing skirt that finishes below the knee–by quite a way, if you have a petite frame, since the skirt measures 27.5 inches in length. In my size 18 the waist flat measures 38 inches with stretch to 39.5, while the bust flat measures 44 inches with stretch to about 47 inches. That makes it about a size larger than the size chart lists for a size 18, so you may need to bear that in mind. The dress comes with a thin black buckle belt and closes with a back zipper.
The Wonderland Hepburn dress is available in UK sizes 8-28. This rose print is also available on the Estella, Tea dress and Isabella dress styles. Alternatively, if you’re a fan of this Hepburn dress cut but not the print, the Hepburn dress is available in multiple other colourways and prints.
