Woodland Aurora [Miss Candyfloss]

Ardent admirers of Miss Candyfloss will no doubt recognise this dress from their Lookbook for this summer’s Fairytales collection. It was launched at the same time as an identically cut dress, the Mary-Beth dress, which comes in a green and grey tartan with bold black accents. At first I was drawn to the tartan iteration, before remembering that I’ve actually been meaning to add beige, brown and grey pieces to my wardrobe recently, which is sorely lacking said neutral tones. With that in mind, I paused briefly to envision a few different ways I might style the piece, then happily clicked the order button.

Dress: Aurora-Tan dress C/O Miss Candyfloss
Cardigan: White cropped cardigan from Amazon
Bangles: Golden Night by Splendette
Bag: Suedette round bag by New Look

As this dress is black and tan, it’s easy to layer on colour or other neutral shades to achieve different looks. This colour combination, though, as the name suggests, is clearly a vintage-inspired reminiscence of the dress Aurora wears in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty while she’s walking through the woods, charming animals and birds alike. As such, it would be perfectly darling to layer a white blouse under this dress to tip one’s hat to the inspiration for this piece. In this instance I decided to take that inspiration and veer just a little bit off course with a cropped cardigan instead.

The Aurora-Tan dress has a black bodice featuring a sweetheart neckline laced through with tan ribbon, creating a little peekaboo effect that feels a touch renaissance-esque without bearing a great deal of bosom. It’s sleeveless and closes with a back zip. The tan skirt has large box pleats that display two large pockets, each topped with a deep folded cuff. The skirt will house a slim to medium volume petticoat to create a nice flared shape, and the dress comes with a matching black fabric notched belt.

I’m wearing this dress in my usual Miss C size 2XL and it’s a great fit. The bust flat measures 45 inches with stretch to 47 inches, and the waist flat measures 36 inches with stretch to about 37.5 inches. The skirt is 28 inches long.

The Aurora-Tan dress comes in sizes XS-4XL, although Miss Candyfloss’s own stock is down to L-4XL already. They have stockists around the globe, both online and in brick-and-mortar stores, and are always happy to direct customers in search of specific pieces to the correct stockist who may have the piece in stock.
