Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Pink Collection

My favourite lipstick is the Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink liquid lipstick, so much so that I own all of the colours that could conceivably work for me (which is 18 of them) and buy back-ups of my favourites every time I can’t decide on a third item to buy when I’m shopping Superdrug’s 3 for 2 deal. While doing exactly that this past weekend, I noticed what looked to be 4 new colours; 140 Soloist, 145 Front Runner, 150 Pathfinder and 155 Savant. I quickly googled to see if I had somehow missed a new release and could find no information on these shades. I immediately put in an order and when they arrived I quickly snapped pictures to share with you.

This release is clearly a 4 shade pink focused mini collection, but I don’t know what it’s officially called. Nevertheless, the 4 shades do fill a hole in the existing available Matte Ink shades, which cover reds, nudes, and purple-toned pinks much more expansively than they do any true pinks. I’ve included some of the existing pinkish shades in my swatches below to give you an idea of just how they all match up. Soloist, the other shade from this collection, looked like it was probably a mauve toned pink, a shade I don’t like to sport, so I’m afraid I haven’t got swatches of that one.

145 FRONT RUNNER

Front Runner is the deepest of the new shades, a rich, bright raspberry pink. It’s most similar to Artist, which leans more berry than Front Runner.

150 PATHFINDER

Pathfinder is a bright mid-toned pink. It’s the bright pink that will fulfill ladies who don’t like how Barbie pink Romantic is.

155 SAVANT

Savant is a soft medium-light pink. It has less mauve-brown than Lover but more depth than Inspirer. It’s my new favourite I-want-to-wear-lipstick-but-I-don’t-want-it-to-make-a-statement shade. If, like me, you’ve tried the other lighter Matte Ink pink shades and found they’re too brown or mauve for you, try this one.

Hope this post has helped if you’re a Matte Ink lover who, like me, just can’t be patient when it comes to her favourite lipstick!

Have you spotted these shades in your local stores or on your favourite beauty website?

  1. Ugh I haven’t seen these in the US yet, and Savant is exactly what I’m looking for – I don’t care for for mauve pinks either. How would you say Ruler and Artist compare? I have Artist, but can’t decide if Ruler is different enough to buy (no testers anywhere!). Thanks!

  3. Thank you for this! I’ve become increasingly obsessed with the Superstay Matte Inks this year because they don’t transfer onto masks, and I wear Artist a low as it’s closest to one of my favourite pre-pandemic lipsticks Maxed Out by Colourpop, except it’s more purple. Front Runner looks perfect and I’ve ordered it!

      • Thanks for replying! I’m so glad someone else loves it as much as I do, it’s a wonderful shade! If you happen to own them both, do you think that they are as similar as they look in this post?

      • They are similar but not so much so that it’s pointless to one both. Artist is much more purple-mauve based, whereas Front Runner is much more of a deep berry, with that hint of raspberry to it. Side by side it’s very noticeable.

But still gorgeous I’m trying to decide out of that one and found??

    • These swatches are very accurate to the way these colours look irl, I think the lighting for my on-my-lips shots just wasn’t picking up Front Runner as accurately as the swatches did. It’s definitely a pink rather than a red
