If I was confused by Maybelline’s press silence surrounding their Pink Collection release of new shades of their Superstay Matte Ink lipstick in autumn last year then I’m flummoxed by the fact that they’ve, again, released more shades without any apparent fanfare. This time I couldn’t even find a name for the release; I simply stumbled across the new shades while checking the collection on Superdrug online, as I do every couple months almost absentmindedly, just in case there are new shades, which there usually aren’t. But, lo, there I found 165 Successful, 170 Initiator, 175 Ringleader, 180 Revolutionary and 185 Mover. Let’s get lookin’ and comparin’
I didn’t pick up Mover, so that’s the only one of the new shades I can’t show you I’m afraid, but I’ve done arm swatches, lip swatches and full headshots of the others so you can get a good idea of how they truly look.

165 Successful
A mauve toned pink, leaning much more purple than pink on my pale skin. In the side-by-side swatches for some reason the other pinks make it look almost berry, but note that this is definitely a mauve.
Successful is one of those shades I wouldn’t have bought had I been able to see it in person rather than trying to fathom from almost no online information or pictures what shade it was, because as it turns out it’s mauve-y, the only shade range I kind of hate and yet keep accidentally buying online. You’d think I’d learn my lesson but I’m impatient, my local Superdrug rarely carries the newest shades, and Maybelline is basically always in some sort of 2 for £12 or 3 for 2 offer online, so here we are (or I am, rather, hoarding several mauves I never wear.)
170 Initiator
A mid pink with a touch of coral about it, it’s a slightly warmer, darker version of the also-new 175 Ringleader.
175 Ringleader
A subdued burnt coral pink, it can function for me as a fun, casual daily lip colour that isn’t hugely shouty on my face.
180 Revolutionary
A soft mid-pink that serves as classic rosebud reminiscence. A great daily shade, can function for me as a my-lips-but-better option for casual looks.

Maybelline has released tons of other similar pinks in their past 4 releases (the original release, Un-Nude edition, City Edition, and the smaller Pink Collection) so I’ve swatched a bunch of them beside these new shades so you can figure out if any of these fill a hole in your makeup collection.

ooooh! I think I need Successful (I love my mauves!) and Initiator. Plus the other Pinks from the last release. I’m basically obsessed by these Maybelline ink lippies and can’t thank you enough for telling me about them through your blog in the first place, plus continuing to review ’em as they bring them out. The wear is just INSANE. Honestly, last Friday I put on my favourite red “Dancer” at 8:30 am, had a full work day, then dinner, drinks and dashing about town in the storm…. forgot my usual routine of daubing my lips with coconut oil before bed and woke up STILL WEARING RED LIPS THE NEXT DAY!!!!

They’re so crazy good! Sometimes I find right at the end of the tube the wear isn’t quite as infallible but I’m assuming that’s because I inadvertently put a less full application on, the rest of the time it’s pure perfection! I recommend them to anyone who ever mentions lipsticks to me

How do you know if you’ve run out or are running out of product?

The Doe’s foot applicator clearly has less product on it when I’m finishing the tube, when it’s running low a fresh pump into the tube means the applicator looks/feels like it would normally look after I’ve applied all the product on the applicator to my lips, rather than having a clear abundance of the product clinging to the wand. Basically it takes more pumps back into the tube to be able to apply a full lip, so when that happens I just order a new one

Where did you find the shade Initiator?
And what undertones does Savant have?

I just ordered Initiator online from Superdrug, so I would imagine it should be stocked wherever it is you usually buy your shades.
Savant is a dusky mid-pink, i find it hard to decide on the undertones because it’s such a true pink. Definitely no purple undertones.

Thank you – I recently noticed the new shades when I went to buy replacements (why are they a surprise??? they are the best lipsticks!) but could not find good pictures to review the colors. Your pictures are fantastic, also, awesome leopard top. I love the mauve shades so please stop hoarding them 🙂

It’s super strange they don’t hype up their new shade releases anymore! I’m glad I can be helpful for my fellow Matte ink obsessed babes, haha. I’ll try harder to avoid ordering mauve shades in future, they’re all yours! 😄

I’m glad they’re useful! I’m desperate for Maybelline to release their Superstay coffee edition here in the U.K. so I can review those too but there’s no release date yet
