One of my favourite things about moving into the colder half of the year is wearing tartan, plaids and checks. When it’s chilly or dreary outside–or both–there’s something about putting on a check that just feels right. And a green and navy base tartan? Oh that is my favourite.
Dress: Annie Retro Check dress gifted by Dolly & Dotty

Bangles: Mulberry by Splendette
Belt: Old New Look
The Annie dress is one of Dolly & Dotty’s staple dress shapes that they release in new prints and colours every season, and it’s one of my firm favourites. Every Annie has a bateau neckline, making it suitable for every use of wear, including work. It’s sleeveless, so in winter its easy to layer up with cardigans and jackets without dress sleeves getting bunched up underneath as certain sleeve types are wont to do, yet ready for wear alone on warmer days. The pleated skirt has a lovely shape and holds a medium-full petticoat well for some added volume. It comes with a matching fabric grommet belt.
This Retro Check Annie iteration is essentially a tartan by looks, but not technically, hence the name. It’s very reminiscent of Blackwatch tartan, comprised of an emerald green base crossed in navy, with the addition of red lines running through the check. It’s a gorgeous colour palette that fits perfectly into my existing wardrobe, and will be flattering on every skintone. If this green version isn’t for you though there’s also a navy or 2 red versions.
I asked for this dress in my usual Dolly & Dotty size 18. It flat measures 46 inches in the bust, while the waist flat measures 37 inches. It’s made from a soft cotton so there’s no stretch, but if you aren’t sure of your size a quick check of the size chart should sort you out as it runs true to size. The skirt is 27 inches long and the dress closes with a hidden back zip.
The Annie dress comes in over 40 prints, patterns and colours, in UK sizes 8-26. Dolly & Dotty ship internationally.

Awww, thanks Elle! It’s definitely been nice to get dressed up occasionally to break up the (albeit comfy) monotony of being in sweatpants and pjs the whole time I’m not at work, and updating the blog when I can have been a nice way to keep up my creative outfit. I’m glad it’s been enjoyable for you to still see the posts with everything going on 💕
