Sweet Suit, Faux Suit [Miss Candyfloss]

One of the things I find myself most coveting about mid-century fashion when I watch content set in that era is the fabulous skirt suit sets. These days if you want to wear a skirt suit you have to find a pencil skirt and matching blazer on the high street, and, let’s face it, the up-down way modern clothing is cut just doesn’t compete with the curves and silhouettes that mid-century designs celebrated. And the idea that you might want a flared skirt as part of your suit set? Forget it, not happening. Well, unless you shop with Miss Candyfloss, who not only create killer jackets and skirts most seasons to fulfill this most ardently loved of style designs, but have also cleverly created several dresses this season that are design to look like suit sets. Check out this beauty!

Dress: Liolia-Bo dress gifted by Miss Candyfloss
Brooch: Vintage
Gloves: Old Primark
Bag: Collectif

Brown is a colour woefully under-represented in my wardrobe, if not completely absent, so I was excited when I spotted this dress in Miss Candyfloss’s Lookbook for this season. A brown dress that spoke to me, finally! And the fact that it’s a faux suit as well? Chef’s kiss!

The Liolia-Bo is chic and timeless. The fabric and cut of the top seamlessly mimics a single-breasted blazer, with contrasting plain brown trim of the pocket flaps, buttons, collar and cuffs adding elegance and style. The fabric of those contrast details matches the flared skirt, which has well placed pleats that give a subtle A-line shape, and hidden pockets which obviously give us all joy. The back hem of the blazer-resembling top features a stunning kick pleats detail that not only make the faux-jacket feel even more convincing, but racket up the vintage style points by another glorious dozen.

Miss Candyfloss produce individual size charts for all of their pieces, displayed on each product page, and the chart for this dress is bang on. The bust of my 2XL flat measures 46 inches, while the waist flat measures 38 inches with stretch to 39 inches. The skirt is 28 inches long. This dress closes with a hidden back zipper, the tip of which nestles beneath the unbroken collar. All of the buttons in the front of the dress are functional.

As with all Miss Candyfloss pieces, this dress is made in Europe to the highest quality and is designed to last for years. Miss Candyfloss have eliminated the use of plastic product bags this season, so any new designs you order will arrive carefully folded inside a zipped material bag that you can reuse over and over again, whether for carrying items around or for picking up your shopping. I love that ethical and conscientious choice they’ve made, and have been happily folding down these bags into ’emergency use’ bags I can store in my work backpack or in my handbags so I always have one to hand.

The Liolia-Bo dress comes in sizes XS-5XL. Some sizes are sold out at Miss Candyfloss’s own website, but several of their stockists have these missing sizes still available. If you love this dress style but the colour palette isn’t for you, the Liora-Gia is a delicious green and tweed option cut in the same style. Miss Candyfloss ship worldwide, and are always happy to help you locate stockists or to figure out your perfect size.
