Purple Alice [Hearts and Roses London]

I don’t wear a lot of purple but I associate it with my mum and my best friend Menna, so it’s certainly a special colour. This dress in particular, with its bruised burgundy, lush lilacs and rich aubergine, definitely gives me English country garden vibes, so I figure where better to showcase it than my very own English country garden, in the sunshine.

This dress is a classic vintage shape, a sleeveless style with a high boat neckline and high in the back. It’s modest and work-appropriate, giving it a high level of practicality of wear. I typically layer this kind of dress with cardigans, since even on a day as sunny as in these pictures it’s often still chilly here in England, but I had fun layering under it for this styling choice, something that would be fun to do in an array of colours that compliment the purples, dark pinks, greens and creams used throughout this rose print.

The fitted bodice flows out into a flared swing skirt, which would accommodate a slim-medium volume petticoat well. The final touch is a matching fabric bow fixed just above the waist seam, shown in close up above. If bows aren’t for you it’s easily detachable with a couple snips of some scissors, but it’s a fun detail for cutesy lovers.

I asked for this dress in a size 20 for my bust. The bust measures 46 inches flat with stretch to 50 inches, while the waist flat measures 38 inches with stretch to 42 inches. The skirt is 28 inches long. This dress closes with a concealed side zip and is machine washable.

The Alice floral swing dress comes in UK sizes 8-26 as well as in kids sizes from years 3-4 to 11-12. Hearts and Roses London ship worldwide and have stockists all over the globe.
