A well fitted suit jacket that hugs one’s curves is one of those items from mid-century fashion that I think would work in most every modern woman’s wardrobe, and yet somehow they rarely feature. For me, layering a smart, sleek jacket over a dress or skirt is an instant way to look chic and sophisticated, evoking that old school glamour most people love yet few people feel is achievable. Well, it is, and easily so with one of Miss Candyfloss’s signature blazers, like this stunning Liza-Juniper!

Jacket: Liza-Juniper blazer gifted by Miss Candyfloss
Dress: Old
Brooch: Vintage
Bag: Lulu Hun*
If you’re a fan of Miss Candyfloss you’ll recognise this blazer as a cut that the company repeats each year, adjusting the fabric for the season and releasing it in new colours. I absolutely love when a company does this, because it means if you find an item that’s a perfect fit for your body, comfort zone and aesthetic, you can grab it in other colours or prints, knowing you will wear it over and over again.
What makes this signature Miss C blazer so special, to me, is the flawless tailored shape it creates. Pleated at the neck to form a high V, cinched at the waist, then curving out in a gentle flare that accentuates that golden era New Look silhouette, it looks absolutely incredible worn over bottoms or dresses of any type, but it truly sparkles worn with a swing skirt or dress, achieving full 50s Dior perfection. It’s flattering, it’s elegant, it’s stylish, and it makes every outfit look instantly polished. How many pieces hanging in your wardrobe do that?!
The Liza-Juniper closes with fabric-covered buttons at the centre front, and has subtle-bow topped pockets just above the front hem. Said pockets are pretty shallow, it should be noted, able to hold items in the size range of a lipstick or a debit card, but they are functional. The sleeves are 3/4 length, making this jacket suitable for formal wear, and they have a darling little curve to their hem that adds just a touch of visual interest.
Made in olive bengaline, this jacket is a perfect colour to compliment a huge swathe of my wardrobe, which is heavy on olive and many of its complimentary colours. As a fabric bengaline has a generous amount of stretch, making this jacket a perfect answer to my loathing of tight seams that begin to pinch by the end of a long day or after a very good meal.
I was sent the Liza-Juniper in a 3XL. The ample stretch in the bengaline allows for a lot of forgiveness in the sizing. This 3XL lays flat at 46 inches in the bust with stretch to 49 inches. The waist is flat at 39.5 inches with stretch to 42. The sleeves are 19.5 inches flat in circumference across the widest part of the bicep with stretch to 24. The end of the sleeves, while cuffless, is non-stretch due to the stitching, and sits at 13.5 inches flat. As with all Miss C pieces I’ve ever owned, there’s plenty of room through the sleeves in the plus size, a delight and a relief for anyone who’s ever ordered an item that fits everywhere except the very tight sleeves, necessitating a choice between pain or a return, no matter how well the rest of the item fits. This blazer is machine washable.
The Liza-Juniper blazer is available in sizes XS-5XL, though a couple of sizes are sold out currently on Miss Candyfloss’s own website. Miss Candyfloss do have select stockists across the globe, however, so it’s always worth checking online to see if any stockists are carrying a Miss C item whenever they may have sold out of your size. Miss Candyfloss ship worldwide, and they do make this blazer shape in new colours and fabrics most seasons.
