As much as I love the plaids, tartans and rich tones of dressing in winter, normally by the time February rolls around I’m chomping at the bit for springtime, my favourite season. This year is no different. I’m starting to get the itch to dig out my summer wardrobe, with its tropical and fruity prints, its bold colours and bright tones. The weather just isn’t quite there yet though, but on the occasional sunny day I think we’re getting to the point where a light pastel dress isn’t going to look out of place despite the date on the calendar. Enter Matilda, my new daffodil darling.
Dress: Matilda Lemon Shirtdress C/O Lindy Bop
Bag: Half Moon Basket bag by Ellen and James
Hair Flower: Alternate Normality
Bangles: Splendette Banoffee & Blue bangles + Los Flamingo Carved Mustard bangle
Cardigan: White MAK cropped Cardigan
Shoes: Old Primark
Yellow is one of my favourite colours, whether in its darker, moody mustard form, or a bright, sunshiney buttercup burst. I love it pastel, I love it obnoxiously bright, I just love yellow. So the buttery springtime yellow of this Matilda is just what I need for this time of year, a dose of sunrays to keep me happy while the temperatures take their time in rising.
Since it’s a sleeveless shirtdress, it’s perfect for this chilly middleground time of year. On warm days wearing it alone will suffice, but while it’s still pretty cold layering on a cardigan, some nude tights and a petticoat is enough to leave me feeling comfortable as well as chirpy. The front yellow pearlised buttons are functional, while it closes with a side zip and comes with a white belt. The skirt is gathered to produce a lovely medium volume swing shape, and hallelujah, there’s pockets!
I asked for this in a size 18 to accommodate my bust in the button up style and it fits wonderfully. The waist flat measures 37 inches with stretch to 40 inches, while the bust flat measures 42 inches with stretch to 45 inches. The skirt is 26 inches long and it’s machine washable, a bonus since a lot of reproduction clothing is dry clean only. It’s such a comfortable piece I know it could easily become one of my favourites for throwing on in the warmer months for a cute, quick out-the-door outfit.
The Matilda Lemon cotton shirtdress comes in UK sizes 8-18, but the Matilda style comes in 14 colours and prints, across a range of UK 6 – 26 sizes. Lindy Bop ship internationally and have stockists all over the world.
It’s so pretty! I love the colour and it really suits you! I can’t wait for spring either xx

It really is such a lovely happy colour! I’ve been meaning to try adding yellow to my wardrobe – I haven’t worn yellow since my wedding day – my dress was actually a similar yellow to your dress here! 🙂

Aww, that’s so true! I didn’t even think of that – I’m definitely going to have to add some yellow to my wardrobe now, you’ve absolutely convinced me! 🙂

A yellow dress is seemingly the must have for this summer, thanks to LaLa Land. Much rather have the dress than have to sit through that movie again! Looking fresh and springy, I’m still ‘panic wearing’ the tartan though

I don’t wear a lot of yellow – never felt it was one of “my colors” that really looks good on me although I like it. But I have had my eye on this dress for a while. Looks great on you!

It does come in several other prints, including some new nautical prints, so if yellow isn’t for you there may be other options you like
