If you don’t know by now how I feel about dresses featuring black sheer overlays then I’m sorry, you just can’t be paying attention. I am allll about them. I am in love with them. They are, possibly, my deepest and most romantic love of my life. Like, we’re a thing, okay? You just have to know that and accept it. And looking at Unique Vintage’s Georgia dress, I think you’ll see why.
The Georgia dress is one of those absolute classic dresses that will never go out of style and forms a wardrobe staple as a perfect LBD addition to your closet. Got a last minute invitation somewhere nice and not sure what to wear? With Georgia, you’ll never have to fret again. It’s simple, it’s chic, and it’s just plain darling.
The 1950s fitted bodice/voluminous skirt silhouette makes it a feminine piece that will flatter most body types, while the cute little peter pan collar can help lean into a 1960s styling with ease if you want to go for the big beehive, bigger lashes, and a soft lip. While it is sleeveless, it pairs well with a cropped cardigan or a bolero for upper arm coverage for weather or occasions that require it, and that sheer panel across the shoulders gives just the right touch of slinkiness and sexiness without actually sacrificing any modesty.
The buttons that run down the centre of the bodice are not only functional but are the way you get in and out of the dress, so there’s no concealed zipper to ruin the finish of the sheer overlay in the back or to get inevitably stuck at the waist seam as you try to get it zipped up. At said waist, instead there are two hidden poppers (AKA snaps, if you’re American,) that open up to give you enough room to get the dress on over your shoulders or hips, then close to become invisible to the naked eye once the upper buttons are fastened over them. The skirt and bodice are lined with a shiny black opaque lining, while the organza fabric overlay has a soft shimmer under lights and gives undeniable, automatic volume in the skirt starting right at the hips. It comes with a matching black belt to cinch you in at the waist to make the most of that gorgeous skirt volume.
I opted for this dress in my usual Unique Vintage 2X and it’s a great fit. There’s no stretch to the fabric, so you’ll need to be sure you check the size chart and order based off your largest measurement. My bust measurement is the limit for the 2X at 45 inches, and had I been wearing a push up or heavily padded bra I wouldn’t have been able to fasten the buttons over my bust, so be sure to double check that chart. The dress is very true to size, flat measuring 37 to 38.5 inches in the waist, and 44-45 inches in the bust. The skirt is 26 inches long and will accommodate a medium-full volume petticoat well.
My birthday is coming up and this gorgeous dress is definitely a contender for some of the celebrations. Black, flattering, and timeless? Just what I need for reluctantly turning one year older!
The Georgia swing dress comes in 3 colours (black, white with black polka dots, and a blue floral print) all available in sizes XS-4XL.
