Violetta Darling [Hell Bunny]

I am not often drawn to any shade of purple, nor to mid-blues. This dress, though–my, my, has it won me over. Ensnared me! Mesmerized me in earnest.

…I really like it basically, okay? So much so that while I’ve been enjoying this winter for the opportunity to dress seasonally in dark and rich colours, to rock winter-only prints like tartans, the one spring dress hanging in my wardrobe that I’ve been dying to wear, even though I’m kind of not really ready for spring yet on the whole, is this Violetta. She has been calling to me for weeks and finally, thankfully, it’s time to let her do her thing.

True spring might not be entirely here yet but in this Violetta dress you wouldn’t know it. Throw on a cropped cardigan to make up for the still slightly cool temperatures and this little number will have you feeling fully like spring in your soul.

The combination of delicate lavender coloured roses and their olive green leaves set against the rich royal blue background makes for a vibrant and unique floral print. Featuring a sweetheart neckline on a fitted bodice that leads into a gently gathered skirt that achieves a flowy mid-volume, this dress makes for a feminine silhouette that will suit anyone for spring and summer, whether the wearer is a vintage-lover or not. Said skirt has pockets, deep enough to fit my iPhone 7 plus in its slightly bulky case, so sunglasses, debit cards, SPF-loaded lipbalm and blotting papers will have plenty of room to spare if you want to carry your summer essentials on your person and leave your bag at home.

The straps are worth their own lengthy note, not just because their lavender colour and adorable bows make them a sweet focal feature of the dress on the whole, but also because they’re not spaghetti strap–so they have a better chance of covering your bra straps–and because they’re adjustable, helping you achieve your perfect fit.

I asked for the Violetta dress in my now-usual Hell Bunny 18/2X and it’s a nice (if slightly roomy) fit. The way the climate has been vacillating the past few years, I’d rather have a little breathing room in my summer dresses these days that have a skin tight fit, so while I might have been able to squeeze into the 16 I think the 18 makes for a more comfortable warm-weather fit for me. The waist flat measures 38 inches with a little give, while the bust flat measures 45 inches with a couple extra inches of stretch. The dress closes with a back zipper and the skirt measures 26.5 inches long.

The Violetta 50s dress comes in sizes XS-4XL and discount code AMYMAY20!% will get you 20% off this or any other items at hellbunny.com. If you’re more a lover of separates, this print can also be found on the Violetta 50s skirt in the same size range.

  1. I thought this dress was lovely but then I saw the straps and now it’s GORGEOUS! I love that they picked the lilac hue for the straps and they’re ADJUSTABLE!? It’s a miracle!!

  2. This print makes me think of some of the brighter/zingier PinUp Girl florals of the past and I wouldn’t have guessed it for a good ol’ Hellbunny at all – definitely looks way more expensive!
