I know here on the blog it probably feels like I say something is my all time favourite colour/design feature/dress style a lot–I’m an enthusiastic person (in the moments I’m not acting like a grumpy old man, that is) so I can be prone to a touch of hyperbole. When it comes to sundresses though, as much as I love finding an exciting new style, I think my absolute favourite still has to be a simple dress with thin adjustable shoulder straps, a gathered skirt and, if possible, pockets. The Sunday dress by Joanie Clothing ticks all those boxes, and lucky me, it’s been released in a new print that I’m just a little bit obsessed with. (Hyperbole, me??)
This print is just darling. Depicting a quaint provincial town full of colourful houses, the pink, yellow, blue, greens and cream of the landscape will offer you a million colour-pairing options when styling this piece. You can create an outfit as colourful as your heart’s desire, or you can let the dress do all the talking by pairing it quietly with white, cream or other darker neutrals, like a rich woody brown. It’s a print that breathes summer, exuding reminiscences of hot sunny days, the feeling of sand against your skin at the beach, and the relief of a cool, light breeze.
As mentioned in my pre-amble, this dress is a lovely simple cut–the gathered skirt is of a slim-medium volume that will work especially well for petite ladies or folks who just don’t love a huge numbers of gathers around their hips. The pockets are deep enough to fit my iPhone 7 Plus fully without being at risk of immediately toppling out, which is great because pockets I can’t fit my phone in are only slightly more useful than having no pockets at all. The spaghetti straps are adjustable, so you can ensure you won’t suffer through the infuriating experience of constantly scooping straps back onto your shoulders that are just too long to stay put. It’s fully lined, making it a 100% cotton piece that will keep you cool and your skin able to breathe. The bodice is shaped with princess seams, creating a clean, flattering fit.
I can be either a size 18 or 20 in Joanie Clothing pieces depending upon the individual size measurements for each product and the type of fabric used in its construction. Thanks to the no-give cotton and my 46 inch bust, I asked for this dress in a 20. The waist flat measures 38.5 inches, making it just a touch smaller than the size chart states. The bust flat measures 46 inches, so it’s a comfortable, perfect fit in that area. The skirt is 24.5 inches long and can fit only a slim volume petticoat, should you wish to wear one, as I have done in the pictures above. Joanie Clothing produces size charts specific to each item, so it’s always a good idea to check the size chart on the product page for any item you’re interested in.
The Sunday Provence Print dress comes in UK sizes 8 – 22. Joanie Clothing ship worldwide.
