Spring is my favourite season, but autumn is a close second behind it, entirely for its colours. When the trees are in different stages of decline, awarding the sight of red, yellow, orange, near-gold and green all mixed together side-by-side over the hedges of my garden, along the roads that lead me everywhere I go, my heart is made happy. So realising that very sight is epitomised into the tartan of this Hell Bunny Oktober dress–well, my heart was more than a little pleased.

I’d been waiting eagerly for this dress to be released for months and it arrived just as the first leaves are beginning to turn–perfect! The warm, rich tone of orange mixed with the forest green and earthy brown form a flawless representation of the change of season, and as all the colours are muted versions of themselves they form a colour palette that will flatter, not overpower, most skintones.
Speaking of flattery, let’s talk shape. The cross-over style v-neck bust displays the decolletage beautifully while the waist is cinched by the waistband formed of the rotated tartan fabric, creating contrast and drawing the eye. The pleated skirt is of medium fullness, so you can wear it with or without a modest volume petticoat. And There. Are. Pockets!
The three-quarter length sleeves will look good on every body, and in this instance it’s possible to layer cardigans and jackets over this dress not just for warmth when needed but also to expand your outfit styling possibilities. Said possibilities are already so numerous thanks to the many colours created by the layering in the tartan. Navy, burgundy, light green and pale blue are all shades visible in the pattern in addition to the obvious greens, browns and orange, so you can get creative with your colour pairings.
I asked for this dress in my usual Hell Bunny size 18/2XL. There’s limited stretch in this fabric so it’s important you consider sizing if you aren’t used to ordering from Hell Bunny. The waist flat measures 38 inches with just under an inch of give, while the bust flat measures 46 inches with room up to 48 inches. The upper arms are 15 inches in circumference and the armholes are 21 inches in circumference. The dress closes with a back zipper topped with a hook and eye. The skirt is 26.5 inches long.
The Oktober dress comes in sizes XS-4XL, as does the Oktober skirt and Oktober pinafore, all available in the same autumnal tartan. You can get 20% off with discount code Amymay20!% from any orders on Hellbunny.com.
