It’s so nice to be getting consistent sunshine these days, which means I can finally share with you this tropical treat of a dress from Hell Bunny, the Kalani 50s dress. It’s been hanging on the back of my closet door for weeks now, taunting me as rain fell repeatedly, every weekend, daring me to even wistfully consider whether it was possible to shoot it yet. But no more! The sun is here, and so is the chance to shift into spring wardrobe mode! What better way than with a floral print as lush as this one?
Dress: Black Kalani 50s dress gifted by Hell Bunny (Discount code Amymay20!% for 20% off)

The Kalani 50s dress shape is such a classic, ready to flatter every body type. It has a sweetheart bustline that leads into shoulder straps thick enough to cover your bra strap (hurrah!) and a full circle skirt that can take a full volume petticoat without fuss, or fall beautifully without one for a more casual, easy-wear look that will keep you cooler on hot summer days. There are also pockets (double hurrah!), and the shoulder straps feature 3 button holes at the end so that you can choose right strap length for your perfect fit where they attach to the back of the dress by a button. I find that feature incredibly useful, as the one thing I find the most annoying about strappy summer dresses is how frustrating it can be when the straps are too long for you, forcing you to spend the entire day hooking them back onto your shoulders as they repeatedly slide off. No more!
This dress closes with a hidden back zipper topped with a hook and eye. There are 2 shirred elastic panels at the back of the dress that provide plenty of stretch to give you that extra level of comfort and ease of wear throughout the day, which is not only great when you enjoy a large meal, duh, but is also just excellent on really hot days when it’s so easy for clothes without any give to start to rub or pinch at you when you’re feeling overheated or clammy.
The print is beyond lovely, featuring pink hibiscus flowers and their green foliage, but the great thing is that not only is it available in two colours–a yellow version as well as this gorgeous black one–but Hell Bunny have also used it on several different items this season. In addition to this Kalani 50s dress there’s also a swing skirt, a spaghetti strap jumpsuit with an elasticated waist (hello summer comfort!) and a short sleeved shirt. You can take your pick!
I asked for this dress in my usual Hell Bunny 2XL/18 and it’s a great fit. The bust flat measures 44 inches with stretch to 48 inches, while the waist flat measures 37 inches with stretch to 39 inches. The skirt is 26 inches long and the pockets can fit my iPhone 7 Plus without the risk of it falling out.
The Kalani 50s dress is available in this black print or a yellow print in sizes XS-4XL, and discount code Amymay20!% will get you 20% off any orders at hellbunny.com. It can be used multiple times and even works on sale items.
