An Emerald Gem [Dolly & Dotty]

I love a vintage style dress that has something a little bit different about it, and the glorious double semi-circle of semi-circle cutouts on this Dolly & Dotty number absolutely qualifies. Cutouts generally get a bad rap, with people immediately assuming they display too much flesh, but these cutouts elevate this Elaine dress with style and elegance. Plus, it comes in 4 colours, so what’s not to love?

Dress: Emerald Elaine dress gifted by Dolly & Dotty
Bolero: Old
Bangles: Black Splendette + Bow & Crossbones bangles

This dress is classic and sophisticated. The bateau neckline paired with the cutout detailing is both modest and sexy. The skirt features box pleats that will allow a slim-to-medium volume petticoat, but it hangs wonderfully without one, as shown in these pictures. Additionally, making me very happy, is the fact that it has pockets.

It’s a sleeveless dress so it will work well in the warmer months but layers up easily in cooler weather, and would look equally great paired with cardigans and jackets (imagine a deep plunge peplum number with this! I die!) as it would with a crisp white shirt layered underneath even. The green is rich and luxe, a shade that looks good on everyone, but it also comes in black, petrol blue, and burgundy, so you can choose which glorious jewel you’d rather be.

I asked for this in my usual Dolly & Dotty size 18 and it’s a great fit. The bust flat measures 21 inches with stretch to 46, while the waist flat measures 37 inches with stretch to 40. The skirt is 27 inches long. This dress closes with a concealed centre back zip topped with a hook and eye. The fabric is soft with a nice amount of stretch, so it’s super comfortable to wear all day, whether you’re out and about in the world or are working from home and like to get dressed properly each day to maintain some semblance of normality.

The Elaine 50s swing dress comes in UK sizes 8-24, and is currently on sale for £15! Dolly & Dotty ship around the world.

  1. I love the green with the leopard print so much, it’s one of my favorite pairings. I also agree the cutouts add a little something extra to an otherwise dress thats more on the plain side. Will definitely be looking into this brand, thanks! 🙂
