If there’s a perfect name for this pinafore–and the plaid it shares with the rest of its jointly named collection–it is certainly the Teen Spirit pinafore. There’s no doubt the bold block plaid is giving me 90s grunge vibes, even as the shaping of the skirt leaves room for vintage styling. We love a hybrid.

This pinafore skirt is a fabulous little number. The pleats create room for a petticoat, should you wish to wear one, but give the skirt a great casual shape when worn alone. Being a pinafore skirt it, of course, has straps, which are both adjustable for the perfect fit and removable for optimum versatility. The side seam pockets aren’t hidden so they’re easy to find, something that always delights me because I get quickly annoyed trying to locate hidden side pockets in a full skirt or coat. The plaid print is so simple and bold that this skirt has a true casual energy, something I will rarely admit (or permit, to be honest) in an item of clothing, so I love that it can be thrown on in place of a pair of jeans with a tucked in t-shirt and a pair of trainers. Am I likely to always reach for my knee high boots because I just love wearing them with this piece? Yes, of course, but the point is I don’t have to.

I asked for this skirt in the same Hell bunny 2XL/18 I always wear and it’s consistent with their usual sizing. The waist flat measures 37 inches with zero give. The pinafore straps measure 35 inches on their shortest setting and 38 inches on their longest setting. The skirt is 26 inches long.
