Embroidered dresses always feel special. The fact that the embroidery of this dress is stitched onto a sheer floaty overlay that gives this dress a dreamy and ethereal feel just makes it all the more special.

This dress is much more versatile than one might think at first glance. Yes, it’s absolutely an occasion piece that would work beautifully for a wedding–whether as part of the wedding party or as a guest–as well as practically any other special event, but it’s also such a sweet piece that it can be dressed down in effortless, soft ways that work entirely for a casual piece that has just that extra bit of charm. Paired with flats and a simple hairstyle it’s a darling date look, either day or night, but with wedges, sunglasses and a cardigan to hand it would be perfectly lovely for a day in the park or a little picnic. It’s exactly as precious as you’re willing to make it, so if you want to wear it all the damn time, even just to run to the supermarket, it will simply make you look like a pretty little daydream as you do so.

This dress has a V-neckline and a fitted bodice, which is trimmed with a pale blue cotton lace ribbon. The lining of the dress is the same pale blue in a fabric that feels satiny against the skin but is matte on the right side out, visible through the sheer embroidered overlay which features a pattern of dark blue roses and smaller light pink posies. The skirt is slightly gathered, allowing a tender, floaty movement, and the hem is scalloped. 

The sleeves are one of favourite sleeve types, a flutter sleeve. My upper arms are an area of my body I’ve always been self-conscious about, no matter my size, and I love that flutter sleeves offer upper arm coverage in a delicate way which flatters literally every body type whilst also being supremely comfortable, thanks to their complete lack of cuff or elasticated sleeve. The free flowing fabric can’t possibly squeeze or pinch, so they’re a great option for folks who find getting the right fit on short sleeves difficult. The fact that these sleeves are made from the same sheer embroidered floral fabric as the overlay on the rest of the dress makes them feel extra sweet and romantic.

I asked for this in a size 18. The waist is 38 inches flat, with no stretch, while the bust is 45 inches flat with stretch to 47 inches; those measurements make this dress exactly in line with their size chart. The overlay skirt is 27 inches long, while the lining is 25 inches long underneath. The sleeves are obviously free, as are the hips.
