When it comes to summer frocks, is there anything more superlative than red gingham? I suspect not. Add pockets and a full skirt and I am one happy pinup!

This Lily dress is cuter than a button, featuring an off-the-shoulder neckline that leads into short pleated sleeves, an uncommon sleeve design which I just love. The bustline forms a curved V, dipping into gathers accented by 2 fabric covered buttons. Said fabric is a soft stretch cotton, so the bodice hugs the bust and waist lovingly before flaring into the box pleated skirt, creating a flattering silhouette. Hidden side seam pockets and room for a medium-full petticoat will keep you happy. All in all, it’s a summertime gingham dream that will look perfect picnicking or frolicking in fields if, you know, frolicking is your thing.

Since this piece is made from a stretch fabric I asked for it in a size 18, my go-to sizing selection for stretchy Dolly & Dotty pieces. The waist measures 36 inches flat with stretch to 38, while the bust measures 40.5 inches flat with stretch to 45 inches. The sleeves are sized up well (18 inches flat through the sleeve cuff with an inch of stretch,) so there was no digging in or pinching my arms, which is honestly impressive for short sleeves as many brands don’t grade them up appropriately through plus sizes. My chubby upper arms were fully comfortable, as was the rest of me thanks to the ample stretch in the fabric. Because of that it’s a great dress for a full day of wear, especially for folks who fidget compulsively or find waistbands grow less forgiving after a meal (I raise my hand on both counts.)
