I think one of the things that people regularly struggle with when it comes to clothing is not being certain which colours best suit them. In a way it doesn’t really matter, because if you love something enough to feel good wearing it then that is the only thing that matters. But for the less confident, knowing a cut and a colour brings out their best features makes all the difference. An easy thing to remember, then, is that jewel tones look good on literally every skin colour, as their richness flatters against both pale and dark tones. As such, emerald green is good on everyone, so today’s featured dress is ready to stun for all.

This Marceline dress is certainly designed to compliment, with it’s three-quarter length sleeves sitting just off the shoulder before they flow into a sexy, décolletage-bearing curved V formed by the surplice neckline. Pleats in the bust echo the pleats of the wide waistband, which offers a visual cinch, while the flared skirt echoes the design further with box pleats. So much pleat work gives a sophisticated nod to structure, but the fabric used for the dress is a sturdy quality stretch bengaline, so comfort is offered all day long through every seam. As if the stylish desirability of the dress isn’t enough, the skirt also has pockets. Really, in a dress this chic, what more could one want?
As such a timeless mid-century shape, it’s patently easy to dress the Marceline up to the vintage nines, leaning fully into glamour as I have done here. But Marceline offers the same versatility I love in all vintage style dresses, which is that it will look just as elegant and effortless worn with a sunhat and cat’s eye sunglasses during the warmer months as it does with your best jewellery and elbow length gloves. You could even layer a cardigan over it and add tights and boots for a cosier, cold weather day look.
I asked for this dress in the 2X, my typical Unique Vintage size, and it’s a perfect fit. The high level of stretch in the fabric means the flat measurements are very small compared to the full stretched measurements, as the fit of the dress is designed with that level of give in mind, so take that into account when reading the following. The waist flat measures 34 inches but has stretch to 41 inches, while the bust flat measures 38 inches with room flor up to 48 inch busts. The sleeves are 14 inches in circumference in the biceps but, again, there’s another 4 inches of stretch in the fabric there, so they’re perfectly comfortable on my large upper arms. The skirt is 27.5 inches long. The dress closes with a back zip topped with a hook and eye.
The green Marceline dress (A/L) comes in sizes XS-5X. It also comes in black. Unique Vintage ship worldwide and also have a customer loyalty program that earns you money off future purchases.

thank you! there are only 2 reviews on the UV site and no one mentions upper arms!!! I need to make a quick purchase as I waited until the last minute to try on my go to Collectif dress for an upcoming wedding in North Carolina. We are travelling from Toronto so I will be purchasing this dress and having it shipped straight to the hotel. You look stunning and I cannot wait to wear this dress! 🙂

Ah I hope you love it! I always try to mention arms because that’s the main area I have issues myself even when a dress is the right size. Have a lovely time at the wedding!
