Nothing Rusty About Manuella [Miss Candyfloss]

Another day, another post in which I explain how I fell in love with a dress from Miss Candyfloss’s lookbook. I know it sounds repetitive, but that’s only because it’s true. Pouring through the new Miss C lookbook each season to see what the latest line will have in store for us is genuinely one of my favourite parts of a new season, not just because Miss Candyfloss is my favourite brand but also because I love it when a brand shows you sneak peeks of their upcoming line. It sets expectations, letting you know whether the aesthetic for the range fits with your own tastes, and if so, helps build excitement as you wait for your favourite previewed pieces to debut. This Manuella-Amber was one of my (yes, many,) instant faves, and I think she’s a doll.

Shoes: Green Amethyst heels by Hotter
Bag: Green Gemma bag by Banned Retro
Brooch: Vintage

The Manuella-Amber is an autumn tartan dream, made from navy, grey and rust tones criss-crossing to provide the depth of colour and design we all love in tartan. The v-neck collar is underlined in solid rust, allowing a peep of that dark sand tone just along the edge, which is also echoed in the sleeve cuffs, matching fabric grommet belt, and the decorative buttons advancing down the bodice at an asymmetric angle. At the waist that asymmetric angle cuts back on itself into a small peplum, which frames the pleated swing skirt beautifully. Their use of peplums is one of the design features Miss Candyfloss is most adept at employing, and happens to be one of my best-loved aspects of their pieces–truly, no other brand does it like they do.

There is some gentle pleating on the shoulders, a small detail which shows the profundity of thought put into the design process. Pockets in the side seams of the skirt, below the peplum, proves that Miss Candyfloss knows what we want (the crowd cheers!) The dress closes with a centre back zip which ends below the unbroken collar. All in, it’s a delight, a darling, a gem.

These days I tend to sit between the 2X and 3X in Miss Candyfloss, depending upon the fabric used and cut of the piece. In this dress a 2X would have fit me snugly as my measurements put me in the top end of the measurements listed for the 2X, but I tend to prefer a little room in my clothes rather than a snug fit, so I have the 3X instead. The waist flat measures 39 inches with an inch of give, while the bust flat measures 47 inches flat with stretch to just shy of 50 inches. That puts this dress exactly in line with its size chart, as expected. Miss Candyfloss always do an excellent job of grading up the sleeves on their pieces through the plus sizes and I can confirm the sleeves are well graded for a 3X, measuring 20 inches in circumference across the bicep, with another inch or so of give afforded by the stretch in the fabric. The skirt is 28.5 inches long. Altogether that proves you can be confident in the size chart, another thing I truly appreciate about Miss Candyfloss, alongside their excellent quality and the fact that they make all their piece in Europe. Just picture me right now as that emoji with all the little love hearts around its face.

The Manuella-Amber dress comes in sizes XS-5XL, though some of the sizes are sold out on Miss Candyfloss’s own website. They have stockists worldwide, however, so a quick online search should help you locate your nearest stockists carrying any missing sizes. Miss Candyfloss ship worldwide.
