I love a houndstooth print. I generally think they are widely underused and under appreciated, so I was pleased to see Hell Bunny release this Blake dress this season, with a bold oversized houndstooth pattern that can’t be ignored.

This dress is almost too cute for me to cope with. Printed in the classic houndstooth black and white, this dress can be styled to be as modern as you wish. The collar lends the design structure whilst the slight puff to the top of the sleeves adds a softness as well as a sweetness. The gently flared skirt can take a slim petticoat if you like a little lift away from the legs, but otherwise lays just right for a casual look.
It’s a perfect daily wear piece as not only is it comfy and classic, but its black and white palette lends it to literally every colour pairing you can think of, allowing you to create endless outfits with it as a base. Layering up with black accessories would obviously make for easy and stylish pairings in practically every combination, but I also love how well rust, mustard, burgundy, teal, and forest green will pair with this dress for seasonally appropriate pops of colour that allow you to create many a unique outfit styling. Plus, I’m sorry, but layer a black leather (faux or otherwise) jacket, tights and leather boots with this dress and you will definitely look both adorable and cool, a combo I think is also underrated.
There’s a great sturdy sort of stretch in this fabric which hugs you in the all the right places and skims over everywhere else, creating both a wonderful silhouette and a truly comfortable wearing experience.
I asked for this dress in my usual Hell Bunny 2XL/18. The waist flat measures 38 inches with stretch to 42, while the bust flat measures 44 inches with stretch to 48. The skirt is 24 inches, so it hits my 5ft 7 frame just on the knee, as it’s one of Hell bunny’s Mid dresses, which tend to be slightly shorter and more modern than their 50s dresses. The cuffs of the short sleeves measure almost 17 inches in circumference with give to 18 inches, so there’s no risk of pinching or squeezing even on my large upper arms. The square buttons are functional but this dress closes with a hidden centred back zip that ends an inch below the unbroken collar at the back of the neck.
The Blake Mid dress comes in sizes XS-6XL and Hell Bunny ship worldwide, in addition to having in store and online stockists all over the world. There’s also a Blake swing skirt and short sleeved blouse available in the same print.
