Many of my favourite dresses are Miss Candyfloss, and pretty much all of my favourite yellow dresses are Miss Candyfloss, because they’re a brand who do not scrimp on yellow, which I love them for. So today’s post is all about frolicking amongst the buttercups and soaking up the sun (while slathered in SPF 50 and a sunhat, of course) in the happiest of yellows, in the Selena-Sun dress.

A lot of people think they can’t wear yellow, and I think that’s because they try one shade of it then give up. As far as I’m concerned, a rich yolk yellow, like this Selena-Sun dress, looks good on almost everyone, because it doesn’t wash people out. It’s a happy, fun yellow that isn’t overly bright, a much more mellow tone that has depth to it, like a warm-toned mustard. Still, if you love this dress but really can’t bite the bullet on the yellow, this same dress shape is available in a stunning white cotton eyelet as the Serena-May dress.
Speaking of this dress’s shape, it is truly charming. It was one of my immediate favourites from their SS22 Lookbook, thanks to its pointed collar and asymmetrical button placement across the bodice. Miss Candyfloss regularly use asymmetrical or curving button alignments in their pieces and it’s one of the design features that I think makes their items stand out in the repro clothing world (alongside their adequate appreciation for the colour mustard, of course.)
The square neckline and well fitted bodice flatter to perfection, while the box pleats in the skirt give plenty of volume. Said skirt can take a medium-full petticoat with ease, as I have worn here, but lays beautifully when worn alone too. There are pockets hidden the skirt’s side seams, and the dress comes with a matching wide grommet belt to cinch the waist. It’s a sleeveless dress so it’s obviously great for warm weather wear, but layering it up works just as well for slightly nippy days, or even for wear through autumn and winter.
I wear a 2X or 3X in Miss C depending on the dress cut and fabric type, and they sent me this beauty in the 3X as it runs a little smaller than usual, as they note in the product description. It still has a dedicated size chart on the product page, so following that will give you all the information you need. To confirm, the waist on my 3X flat measures 38 inches with stretch to 40. The bust flat measures 44 inches with stretch to 46. The skirt is 27.25 inches long. This dress closes with a hidden side zip and is machine washable.
The Selena-Sun dress comes in sizes XS-5XL and Miss Candyfloss ship worldwide. They also have select stockists around the globe, both online and in-store.
