April in the New Year [Dancing Days]

Dancing Days have a lot of cute things on offer this season, some of them new colourways of existing separates, like the April cardigan. I first saw it last season and came close many a time to buying it, for some reason never completing the purchase. This season, though, the new colours include mustard yellow and a rich emerald green, two of my favourites, so finally a purchase was guaranteed. In my heart of hearts I wanted the mustard colourway, but since I already have DD’s Modern Love top in that shade as well as a MAK cropped cardigan in mustard, I decided to get the dark green. I think I made the right choice.

The 40s April bow cardigan comes in 6 colours, this dark green, apple green, black, red, white and mustard yellow. It’s made of a soft, stretchy fine knit of medium weight, has half sleeves, and features a peter pan collar, a favourite of mine on cardigans. In place of buttons the cardigan closes with sturdy metal poppers, over which a cute little bow is placed on the outer layer of the central closure panel. The cardigan is just long enough to tuck into your skirts or trousers, 20 inches from shoulder to hem in my XL, but you can still wear it out over your waistband without it being unflatteringly long.

I have limited experience with Dancing Days but so far, and from what I’ve heard, they tend to size small, with some websites listing the XL as being equivalent to a UK 16 while others, like Top Vintage, have this listed as a UK 12-14. Had I tried the L in this would cardigan I’m certain it have been too small in the armhole for a proper fit and would have lead to serious button gape-age in the bust. The XL is a perfect fit, though my bust just about tests the bust, as worn without an additional layer underneath means anyone facing me from the side would potentially get a glimpse of bra.

Top Vintage stock all 6 colours of this cardigan for €39.95 shipped free to the UK and several other European countries. Dancing Days is a whole-sale only brand, meaning they sell their items to stockists and don’t run any stores or websites themselves selling their brand direct to customers, so finding their stock available closest to you (whether in store or via an online stockist domestic to your country,) is likely going to require a search engine check on your part. As long as you can track down this cardigan somewhere easy for you to buy it, it’s an adorable piece that will help keep you looking cute through the colder season.
