Once upon a time, I wasn’t really a fan of plain coloured dresses. Occasionally I would give them a try, but inevitably I’d never end up wearing them enough and I’d pass them on. I was all about prints, often the brighter the better. These days, though, I think I finally see the merit in a solid coloured dress. It’s a blank canvas. There’s nothing, really, to limit your imagination. You can go wild with accessorising, you can create a dozen very different looks. A plain dress is only as plain as your palette. And with as pretty a solid as this Unique Vintage mint Luna, who, really, would dare call it plain?
Dress: Mint Luna Cape Set C/O Unique Vintage
Bag: Lola Von Rose
Shoes: Bettie white satin heels by Pinup Couture Shoes
Hair Flower: Marsha Duo by Alternate Normality
What I love most about the Luna cape and dress set is the superlative level of versatility it offers. Sure, you can wear the cape and dress together–which, by the way, would be absolutely lovely for any upcoming summer weddings you might be attending. But equally, and just as easily, you can break the pieces down to wear apart. Want to pair the mint cape with that pastel print vintage dress you’ve always wanted to style up to the next level? Go for it! Want to pair the dress with a cute little patterned cardigan and some fun accessories? Do it! The dress is modest, the colour scheme fresh, and the pairings infinite, so this set is here for you, day and night, like no other dress ever has been. This dress is your best friend.
In terms of details, it’s lovely how simple yet thoughtful this set is. The double spaghetti straps provide a new twist on standard straps, as well as being adjustable for your best fit. The gathered skirt accommodates petticoats of varying volumes beautifully, and adds joy to your life by having pockets, making this even more useful for an event dress–wanted to use that super pretty but very impractical tiny clutch bag you’ve been saving for an age? No problem, your phone, lipstick, compact, a pack of tissues and even a sneaky small snack will fit in these pockets easily without being visible in the skirt’s outline. And the cape itself is cleverness epitomised, with the collar crafted to be worn both with the open side of the capelet facing forward as well as the closed, solid side, as shown in the pictures above.
I typically wear a 2X in Unique Vintage these days as my measurements put me between sizes. In a boned dress my bust tends to make for a squeeze in the 2X, but in something stretchy the fit is perfect. This Luna dress sizes a little large all over on me however, so it’s possible this might be a dress you could size down in. Specifically the bust flat measures 42 inches with stretch to 47 inches, while the waist flat measures 39 inches and stretches to 41 inches. Adding a belt helped me cinch the waist but I’ll have to take it in a little for a better fit in future, so you might have to bear that in mind. The skirt is 27.5 inches long, a joy for us taller ladies.
The Luna dress and mesh capelet set comes in plain mint, coral, white and burgundy colourways, as well as a lovely black floral print, all in sizes XS-4X. Unique Vintage ship internationally and offer a rewards program for money off future orders.
Oh how lovely!!! This dress is just beautiful – I died when I saw the black and red. Then I saw the white and was so tempted to snag it for a wedding related event but I keep buying things for wedding related things and I do NOT need all these white dresses!! Ahh!
Anyway, this color is dreamy on you!
I get what you’re saying…but this dress without the cape can SO easily be worn casually after the wedding with different coloured accents as cardigans, belts, shoes etc that I would totally get justifying the purchase 😉
Absolutely glorious! I can’t wait to see what else you style with this cape!
That dress looks stunning on you beautiful 💟💟
Absolutely love this in the mint color way! It looks absolutely stunning with your hair. I have it in black and have worn them together and apart – the possibilities are endless. Got to love a dress that can serve double (or triple, quadruple?) duty! I also found it to run on the large side. But a few nips and tucks and it’s the perfect staple dress. 🙂
Ah that’s interesting it runs large in the smaller sizes too, obviously I can only ever comment on whatever size I have but I do sometimes wonder when I end up with a dress that runs large from any brand whether it’s all sizes of that piece or just something that happened in the plus sizes in grading up that particular piece!
