Irvine, So Fine [Hell Bunny]

It’s September and the weather seems to have settled for long enough that I think we can finally call it; it’s Autumn! And while for many that means getting overexcited about Halloween, something I could not care less about, for me it means joyously waiting for the leaves to start changing colours (my absolutely favourite part of the season,) beginning to layer up, and the chance to dig out all my tartans from the back of my wardrobe. Tartans and plaids are my favourite part of autumn and winter dressing, hands down, so I was thrilled to see Hell Bunny offering us more new tartan lovelies this season. Oh Hell Bunny, I can always count on you to make me happy. Today, it’s with Irvine.

This Irvine sleeved tartan swing dress is, to me, the epitome of winter style, evoking both warmth, a happy feeling of seasonal appropriateness, and cold weather chicness. The cut of this dress, with its half sleeves, high rounded neckline, full swing skirt (including pockets) and the cinched waist panel with the rotated tartan all work together to best flatter one’s figure while also functioning as a practical and stylish cold-weather piece. In autumn wearing it alone will work perfectly well for our average UK temperatures, but in winter it would be easy to layer up thick cardigans, a heavy coat, gloves, elegant hats, thick tights or boots to your heart’s (and cold fingers’) content to ensure you feel as toasty as you look stylish.

The bepocketed skirt has plenty of flare and swish without gathers, something many women will be happy about, so it creates a sleek but full line in wear, especially when worn with a petticoat. I chose just a cheap, slim volume petti to wear for these photos and that achieved a nice, subtle volume that balanced out the dress without feeling too puffy or cumbersome. This dress closes with a back zipper, which leads up to a graceful V-cut back.

I asked for this dress in the 16/XL and it’s a close fit to Hell Bunny’s size chart, measuring 42 inches in the bust and 36 inches in the waist. The skirt is 27 inches long.

The Irvine 50s dress comes in sizes XS-4XL in this red tartan, as well as in a green tartan version as the Peebles dress. Both tartan colours also come in a pinafore dress and a swing skirt, in the same XS-4XL size range. My discount code AMYMAY20!% will get you 20% off orders at Hellbunny.com.
