My Current Favourites

It’s been an odd couple months with my plantar fasciitis and piriformis syndrome impeding my ability to shoot outfits as regularly as I usually would, so I thought I’d share with you some of the new things I’ve been trialing or enjoying lately that have become some of my new favourites. From makeup and skincare to footwear and audiobooks, it’s a mixed bag of fun!

Lethal White by Robert Galbraith (AKA J.K. Rowling)
The fourth installment in JK Rowling’s pseudonym-penned Cormoran Strike private investigator series. The third book, my favourite of the series, was released in the autumn of 2015, so it’s been a long and anxious wait to get the fourth installment. I won’t spoil you at all in regards to the plot, but I loved catching up on the goings-on in Strike’s and Robin’s lives, and the audiobook narrator Robert Glenister gives a perfect performance in line with the previous 3 books he narrated in the series.

Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink City Edition in ‘Dancer’

Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink City Edition
These Maybelline liquid lipsticks have been my favourite since their original release last year, but their new City Edition 10 shades release has added at least 4 shades to my favourite lip colour rotation. I did write up a full review of this release a couple weeks back, so if you missed it you can find the review here.

Cecily Boots

Cecily Lace Up Tall Boots by JustFab
With my Plantar Fasciitis, I’ve suddenly had to ditch all my thin-soled unsupportive ballet pumps I typically wear in order to frantically search for footwear that offers decent sole support while also being cute. Since autumn is now upon us, I launched upon these awesome JustFab boots, which in addition to being flat (heels are currently out of the question,) also allow me to wear my plantar fasciitis insoles in them to vastly reduce my pain. They come in three colours, tan, black and dark brown, and in regular or wide calf fits, costing £61 for non-members or £41 for JustFab VIP members shopping outside their monthly credit. I used my monthly credit for one pair of shoes to buy the first pair (for £35), then was so happy with them I bought the other 2 colours as well. If you’ve never shopped on JustFab before you can use my referral link to get these boots for less than £15, or any other pair of shoes or bag instead from £9.

Outlaw Foiled Biker Jacket by Collectif
I don’t want to taunt you too much with this one so I’ll say up front that this jacket is currently sold out. However! Collectif have and do make this style jacket in multiple colours and finishes, so if this exact foiled version isn’t restocked in future (which I’m sure it will be) then there will be other options available in its place. The perfect cropped length to wear with all vintage silhouettes, this jacket makes for a great cold-but-not-wet weather layer that adds extra warmth without obscuring my cinched waist in a swing dress.

Revolution Skincare Targeted Under Eye Serum
Revolution Beauty have recently launched their own skincare line as an answer to The Ordinary but available on the high street from Superdrug. I have fine lines under my eyes that bug me only because concealer gets caked in them easily, but this Hyaluronic acid and caffeine serum helps that issue as it moisturises while de-puffing and brightening the appearance of dark circles. The first time I used it my under eye skin did go a bit pink for a few minutes, no doubt in response to the caffeine kick, but my skin has adjusted since and the results are that it plumps the skin around the fine lines of my under eye, lessening the look of them.

Curlettes Curlers
I reviewed these curlers in full a couple weeks back, so if you missed that you can find it here (including discount code.) The short version, though, is that these babies save me a lot of time and energy in setting my hair, something I have done less and less over the past year as my motivation has waned and my experimentation with clip-in hair pieces has allowed me to achieve vintage styles without a vintage set. Now, though, with these curlers on hand I’ll be less reluctant to wetset my hair regularly.

Heel That Pain Gel Heal Seats
As previously mentioned, I’m suffering from a condition in my left foot that means every step hurts, varying on a scale from ‘well this is uncomfortable’ to ‘motherfucker!’ so, needless to say, I’ve spent a lot of money over the past month trying to find products that lessen that pain. The number one item I’ve found that reliably cuts down on my pain are these heal pads. I bought them in the gel version as any solid insole is currently still causing me too much pain to bear, and though the pack says the relief they provide could take up to 4 weeks to kick in fully, for me that relief was instantaneous from the very first step using these little suckers. Thank goodness!

That’s it! A real mixture, I know. What new things have you been loving lately? Have you tried any new beauty products, found a brand you hadn’t heard of before, snapped up an item you’ve been lusting after for ages? Leave a comment below!
