Spring may be on its way–hell, technically speaking, it may already be here, but judging by the winds whistling down my chimney and clattering against my windows, the weather itself didn’t get the memo. I feel wholly justified, therefore, in reaching not only for sleeves but for plaid, and this Brooklyn dress by Unique Vintage is the perfect choice for both.

I’m tempted to add some more justification for snapping up a new plaid sleeved dress so early in spring, but judging by the news I’ve heard of how chilly it’s been for many of you at various points across the globe (rain in LA! Forever snow in Connecticut!) I doubt y’all need convincing that this dress still holds relevance in March. Let’s face it, here in England I can probably get another 2 months of wear of out this baby before it would start to feel a bit odd sporting check in the sunshine, and even in May that sunshine isn’t such a given. What is a given, though, is how cute this number is.
The Brooklyn shirtdress features functioning buttons running from its winged collar down to the hem. The three-quarter length sleeves flaunt winged cuffs, an elegant flourish I adore. The medium-thick cotton blend fabric and the securely affixed buttons won’t threaten to gape at the waist seam, which I think we can all agree is one of the biggest threats of wearing a button-front shirtdress, and the sizing is graded well over the bust to avoid the same problem. Sporting a matching fabric covered, PU-backed notched belt to cinch you in at the waist, this dress will create a dramatic silhouette when you pair the full swing skirt with a medium-full volume petticoat. And, finally, yes, you’ll be thrilled to hear there are pockets!
I asked for this dress in a 2XL due to it’s non-stretch fabric and it’s a great fit. The waist flat measures 39 inches with a touch of give, while the bust flat measures 46 inches. The skirt is 27 inches long. The armholes are approximately 21 inches in circumference and the bicep measures roughly 15 inches around, which feels just a bit snug on my large upper arms. The cuffs are 12 inches flat. I can typically fit the 1X in Unique Vintage pieces that have a lot of stretch, but I need a 2X in any non-stretch fabric items and this dress abides by that rule. It’s pretty close to the size chart, running perhaps 0.5/1 inch large, so check the chart before ordering to ensure you get the best fit for your measurements.
The Brooklyn Plaid Shirtdress is available in sizes XS-4X. Unique Vintage have a store in LA and also ship worldwide. They offer a customer rewards program that can earn you money off for reviewing previous purchases or referring them to friends.
