A breezy, comfortable dress in a darling print? During this week’s increasing heat especially, yes please!
In case you aren’t familiar with Love UR Look, you’ll likely to pleased to learn it’s a small woman-run company focused on producing ethically made, sustainable clothing. Their pieces are made from sustainably manufactured fabrics printed using vegetables dyes, or from fabrics purchased at surplus markets where overstock materials are sold off rather than dumped in landfills. Even their buttons are sourced from the same upcycled markets. I love their dedication as a company to producing slower, more conscious fashion, and it’s also wonderful to know that the members of their production team are paid a living wage while working in ethical conditions. It’s happy faces and big check marks all round!
And now that we’ve poured over the minutia of the brand, let’s look at the details of this particular dress. It’s a simple cut combined with a demure, sweet print to create a charming springtime piece. The print comprises mustard and buttercup yellow flowers framed by cornflour blue leaves atop a grey background, an unusual but fresh colour combination that allows you to get creative with your styling. The neckline features a gentle curve that juts into a single notched detail, transforming into pointed scalloping on the back of the dress.
This dress can be worn to sit slightly off the shoulders, but as it fit me perfectly sitting on my shoulders I left it to sit there, showcasing the flattering swathe of one’s collarbone, a lovely area to display. The sleeves end just above the elbow, flaring out slightly, which makes them a cool and comfortable aspect of this dress’s wear, even for those of us with large upper arms. The waist can be cinched for effect with the matching fabric belt, though I chose to use a much thicker belt to add contrast.
Full, swishy, and ready to twirl, the skirt can easily fit a medium-full petticoat but lays nicely without one if your preferences or the day’s temperature discourages petticoat wear. Also, I tell you always with joy, there are pockets!
Love UR Look uses a dual sizing system, so it’s always a good idea to take your measurements (if you don’t know them) and check their size chart to make sure you order the right size. I’m wearing the XXL in this dress and the waist flat measures 38 inches flat with a little give, while the bust flat measures 46 inches, my perfect fit. The skirt is 27.75 inches long. The dress closes with a hidden back zipper and is lined in 100% cotton.
Love UR Look often host pop up events throughout the year and their next pop up is Monday 1st July- 7th July in St Albans at Cositas, 32-24 Holywell Hill. This event will provide shoppers with access to exclusive designs and samples, workshops, as well as goodie bags and discounts, so if you’re local to the area they’d be thrilled to see you stop by.
