Here’s the thing about vintage inspired clothing companies—they know how to do a great skirt. And by great skirt, I mean FULL CIRCLE, baby! Flattering AND fun (you know, because of the swirl factor), you really can’t beat a full circle skirt, and this woollen Sophie skirt by Timeless is a sustainable winter gem. Oh, and did I mention it comes in several different checks? Because it does, and here’s two of ‘em!

Sustainable Helena [Timeless London]
Give me a sleeved, check dress when it’s cold outside and I will feel happy and cosy in my heart, even if my actual limbs still require tights and boots. I think one of the things that intimidates newcomers to vintage fashion is the idea that one must get unbearably cold in winter if one wears dresses year round, but I’ve always found that knowing how to style an outfit for practicality as well as appearances is a skill that serves one well no matter your aesthetic preferences. And speaking of practicality, how about looking at a sleeved, checked dress from a brand who think it’s pretty practical to make clothing from sustainable and recycled fabrics so they limit their contribution to climate change? Yeah, I think that sounds pretty good too! Let’s get at it.
Margaret Fulfilling Dreams [Joanie Clothing X Horrockses]
Early in my journey of dressing in a vintage aesthetic I began to feel a pressure that to be a real pinup one had to wear true vintage clothing. Not exclusively, but certainly that owning some true vintage made you a ‘proper’ pinup, compared to buying modern made reproductions. The problem I quickly discovered, however, was that that wouldn’t be an easy feat for me; even back then, as a size 14/16 who lived in the English countryside, finding vintage pieces I liked in my size and within my budget largely meant spending a vast amount of time online searching, as I didn’t have easy access to thrift stores and vintage shops. On the rare occasion I found a dress I wanted that would fit me, it was either wildly outside of my budget or I got outbid. It didn’t take long before I accepted that the only vintage pieces I would be able to acquire with ease would be accessories, so I got comfortable in the world of vintage inspired and reproduction clothing, leaving behind any shame that my 100% modern clothing made me any lesser in any way. Empowered [Love UR Look]
In the vintage inspired and reproduction scene all companies have their own niche and look, but there’s still a lot of overlap in style, understandably, because everyone is drawing from the same pot of inspiration. Love UR Look, however, is one of those brands when I can tell the second I see one of their pieces that it is made by them. They take vintage inspired dress shapes and design features, and they make them totally their own with quirky and fun prints, some novelty, others not, but all distinctly Love UR Look. This dress we’re looking at today is a perfect representation of a design only Love UR Look could come up with; I present to you, Empower You.

Violet Meadows [Love UR Look]
There are millions of feelings, places, eras that clothing can evoke, but never before have I owned a dress that looks like the feeling of dreaming. Until now.
