Here’s the thing about vintage inspired clothing companies—they know how to do a great skirt. And by great skirt, I mean FULL CIRCLE, baby! Flattering AND fun (you know, because of the swirl factor), you really can’t beat a full circle skirt, and this woollen Sophie skirt by Timeless is a sustainable winter gem. Oh, and did I mention it comes in several different checks? Because it does, and here’s two of ‘em!

The Sophie skirts are made from luxury woollen fabrics and they’re lined, so they’re high quality wardrobe staples that will last you years. There are side seam pockets in the skirt, which is an incredible full circle (look at that twirl-span—that’s what I’m deeming the skirt version of wingspan, right here, right now. Just go with it. Twirlspan, tell your friends.) It closes in the centre back with a hidden zip topped with a button closure.
Sophie is available in 10 different checks, from simple two toned versions of both small and large checks, to multi-coloured tartan-reminiscent checks. The woollen fabric has a decent heft to it, so it’ll help keep you warm as long as you consider the weather while putting together your outfit on the whole. It’s also worth noting that Timeless London make all of their clothing from recycled or sustainable fabrics, so your investment in a longwearing staple piece for your wardrobe is echoed in the investment you’re making in choosing a brand that is committed to limiting the damaging waste that fast fashion creates.
I love the versatility of a circle skirt. It sounds obvious, but you can wear it with and without a petticoat, and due to the sheer volume a full circle is able to achieve with the puffiest petticoat possible, that allows for very different results in silhouette. Add to that how well it works as a staple piece for all kinds of looks, even aesthetics, and suddenly you can get dozens and dozens of outfits out of one skirt even if you’re the kind of person who loves to change up how you dress across multiple eras and aesthetics. For example, for the sage green check I decided to lean into a very casual and vaguely dark-academia inspired outfit that I would easily wear to go shopping or to enjoy a relaxed hang out, opting for boots, waistcoat and satchel with no petticoat. For the brown and blue check, I ran with a more mid-century inspired look that felt more polished; satiny blouse, decorative flats, box bag, gold jewellery. I only wore a slim volume petticoat to get some gentle lift of the fabric above the knees, but I could have opted for a super puffy petticoat to create a much more dramatic silhouette.
I asked for both skirts in a 2XL, as I tend to wear 3XL in Timeless’s dresses for my bust. The size chart is spot on, with the waistband measuring 38 inches flat with just a half inch of give in the fabric, so following it should give you the right fit. The skirt is 26 inches long.
The Sophie skirt comes in 10 different checks in sizes XS-4XL, and discount code AMYMAY20 will get you 20% off orders.
