I’ve never seen the film Amelie so I can’t make any cute puns about the name of this skirt to enchant this opening, but I’ll give you a minute to think of something witty yourself to enjoy and then we’ll move on, okay?

I am an ardent, almost obsessive lover of mustard, so the second I saw this skirt I had to have it. It’s actually actually part of an Amelie capsule collection, all pieces available in both mustard and black, comprising of this swing skirt, a pinafore dress, and a pair of cigarette trousers. Maybe there’s something in the film that is reflected in the style of these pieces or perhaps Hell Bunny just liked the name, but either way, I am very, very here for the mustard love being afforded by this line.

The Amelie skirt is a simple swing skirt, with a full sweep of roughly three-quarters of a circle. There’s not many ways you can go wrong with a swing skirt, but there’s one key way you can go very right and that’s by adding pockets, which this skirt has! Lovely, lovely side-seam pockets that can fit my iPhone 7 Plus, so you’ll find true utility and no false promises with these snackholes! (Snackholes, that’s what we all call pockets when we’re being our most honest, right? No? Just me and small children? Okay whatever.)

Something that surprised me when I opened up the packaging of my skirt was the fabric–I’m useless with materials and the website doesn’t list a specific fabric type in the product description, just the composition breakdown as usual, but it’s kind of like a springtime version of corduroy. It has the fine ribbing of cord but not the fuzziness of it, that not-quite-velvet feel, nor the weight, so it makes for an interesting texture to the eye that is very stretchy and soft to the touch in wear.

I asked for this skirt in my usual Hell Bunny 2XL/18. The fabric of the skirt is stretchy but the waistband doesn’t have any give, which is pretty standard among most Hell Bunny swing skirts, so you can likely get your usual skirt size with no problem. Specifically my skirt flat measures 36.5 inches in the waist with just a touch of give. It’s 26.5 inches long and closes with a back zipper topped by a tortoiseshell button. It’s ready to be a staple of your wardrobe, able to be styled for all manner of occasions, events and purposes, whether or not you intend to use the pockets to carry snacks.
