The Epitome of Spring [Miss Candyfloss]

Considering how out-of-the-ordinary everything is these days I can’t tell you how much it means to me to be able to still enjoy the building sunshine, fresh breezes and blooming flowers of spring. Spring is my favourite season anyway, and only a tiny bit because my birthday is in May, but right now? Right now all my favourite parts of the sweetest, lightest season feel even more beautiful and uplifting. Sun peaking through the curtains in the early morning, the chance to open your windows without it being an immediate mistake because of freezing air or insistent insects, and, let’s face it, right now especially, the chance to wear something that feels and looks just plain happy and floaty and lovely. This new dress by Miss Candyfloss definitely counts as the latter.

This is the kind of dress that I would usually see and love but ultimately decide is probably too sweet for me to pull off. I’m thrilled that I didn’t let that usual conclusion cloud my love for it because as soon as it arrived in my hands that love grew, and only continued to do so when I put it on. It is unbelievably comfortable, made of a soft fabric that gives seamlessly with your movements during wear. The pockets add grateful practicality, able to fit my iPhone 7 Plus, so this dress joins the ranks of my ‘beautiful but also useful’ dresses rather than my ‘gorgeous but not much point in wearing it on a busy day’ dresses.

The shape is a classic Miss Candyfloss cut, a re-vamp of their signature Odette dress, with the bust line featuring the pleated cups that allow fuller busted ladies equal opportunity to enjoy this dress shape. The V-neck leads into thick wide straps that will cover your bra straps with ease and flows into a full back that meets the base of your neck, which I love in a summer dress as it makes for a much more secure, no-fidget wear than spaghetti straps that so easily get knocked off one’s shoulders. The full swing skirt boasts box pleats, creating a lovely shape that flatters whether worn with or without a petticoat, of which a medium-full volume will fit just fine.

Like all Miss Candyfloss pieces, this dress is made in Europe and is excellent quality. The floral print, raspberry pink and blue flowers with olive green foliage on a soft duck egg blue background, not only strongly evokes spring but has a stunning watercolour quality to it that feels endlessly romantic. With all those complimentary colours to play with, you’ll be able to think of a dozen colour combinations to create new outfit pairings to wear this piece constantly throughout spring and right through summer.

I asked for this in my usual Miss C 2XL and I do find that it runs a little larger than their 2XL typically does. The bust flat measures 44 inches with room for up to approximately 52 inches, thanks to those bust pleats. The waist flat measures 40 inches with stretch to 44 inches, so you may have to take it in a little like me if your bust prevents you from sizing down, or use the notched pink fabric belt that it comes with to help cinch you in. The skirt is 28 inches long.

The Bassie-Regina dress comes in sizes XS-5XL. Miss Candyfloss ship worldwide and have stockists all over the world.
