There are two colours that are woefully under-represented in my wardrobe, brown and grey. Happy days, then, that this Baran-Blue dress by Miss Candyfloss features a delightful abstract graphic print on a background shade that is a perfect mix of the two.

This dress is refreshingly different with its abstract large leaf print. The background colour, as mentioned in my opening, is such a mix of brown and grey that it’s hard to decipher which colour it truly is; a very warm grey, or rich yet incredibly cool brown? It will no doubt read as either colour depending upon lighting, but no matter which way one leans in deciding its shade it pairs beautifully with the vibrant cerulean blue leaves, contrasted well with the sparse flecks of white inside those leaves, encapsulated inside thick black outlines while more delicate black swirls and lines loop and stretch across the dress in every direction.
The boldness of the print is softened by the shape of the dress, a square neckline leading into a bodice that hugs the waist and flows out into the A-line skirt, a feminine but subtle silhouette. The skirt would only have room for a very slim volume petticoat, if needed, but as you can tell from these pictures it hangs and moves with easy grace without one. Plus, there’s pockets! The dress equivalent of having super powers. The fabric is a weighty stretch material, not so heavy that summer wear is out of the question, but higher quality and more substantial than stretch fabrics you might be more used to encountering, like jersey. It’s also a wrinkle-free fabric, so I was thrilled to pull this dress out of it’s packaging to find there wasn’t a single crease in sight. A perfect all-day wear dress, and great for travelling once that’s back on the table.
The bustline is decorated with functioning faux-pearl buttons, which echo the white in the print and the matching fabric grommet belt (not pictured.) One of the best features of this dress, though, is the shoulder straps. At first glance their generous width (2 inches) makes them look like standard shoulder straps, but they actually cross over in the back and their length can be adjusted. Both straps have 3 white fabric covered buttons paced out at the end, so it’s up to you to choose which button gives you the best fit. The great thing is that since the length adjustment is made by choosing the right button, even the most novice sewer could snip a button off and move it to get the absolute perfect fit, if needed, but the buttons placed where they are already allow a 3 inch difference in strap length.
I asked for this in my usual Miss C 2XL. The bust flat measures 43 inches with stretch to 46 inches, while the waist flat measures 36.25 inches and stretches to 39 inches. The skirt is 28 inches long. The shoulder straps are 17 inches long to the first button, and 19.5 inches to the third button. The dress closes with a hidden back zipper and is machine washable
The Baran-Blue dress comes in sizes XS-5XL. All Miss Candyfloss pieces are made in Europe, and Miss Candyfloss ship all over the world.

This beauty is on its way to me now, so I was of course interested to read your review! I think Miss Candyfloss have really outdone themselves for the SS2020 season, and I must confess to buying more than a few pieces from them in the last few weeks…

It’s a beautiful season! There was a flutter sleeve dress in their Lookbook in a rusty colour they call ‘stone’ that I’ve been dying for, so I hope it comes out soon so I can order it!

I don’t recall that one! However, my bank account tells me that I really don’t need to see it!
