One of the thing’s I feel like the vintage style realm gets right that the wider fashion world doesn’t is the appropriate level of love for mustard yellow–which is to say, a lot of it. Sure, you can go out and buy a mustard handbag, shoes, cardigan even, but a dress? That just doesn’t happen a lot, even in the vintage-inspired world. So there’s almost no point in telling you how happy I was when I saw this Collectif dress for the first time, is there? No, exactly, you get it.

This dress is nothing short of a summer beauty. The richness of the yellow, so happy and bright, combined with the soft imagery of the white leaves in this print whispers to me stories of joy and sunshine and iced sweet tea. The fabric is very lightweight, perfect for this humid heat we’ve been having here in the UK the past month. It’s not only comfortable for hot weather wear but it also has a beautiful movement to it, flowing and floating in a way that makes one feel a bit like this moment in the film of one’s life would be shown in slow motion, just to best display the ripple and float of those golden fabric leaves.
It’s a halter neck style which typically is not my favourite dress cut because they often give me a neck ache, but I didn’t experience that wearing this dress, so there was no downside to the flattery created by the halter neck leading out of the sweetheart bust. The real winner in the cut, though, is the elasticated smocked panel in the back of the dress, allowing so much give and movement in wear that this dress doesn’t need a zip or buttons to get into it–just pull it on over your head and tie up the halter, you’re done. It comes with a matching PU-backed slide belt.
Because of the stretch panel in the back I’m able to wear this dress in a size 18 without my boobs threatening to revolt. It flat measures 35 inches in the waist with stretch to 39 inches, while the bust flat measures 40.5 inches with stretch to 46 inches, thanks to that elasticated back panel. The skirt is 27.5 inches long.
The Golden Leaves Beth swing dress comes in UK sizes 6-22.
