A white dress is one of the most chic items you can have in your closet. Worn in summer with a red lip, cat’s eye sunglasses and even a simple bun it looks effortless and put together, yet in winter you can reach for additional white layers, glittering jewels or faux fur to pump up the glamour to stunning effect. And now, in autumn? Why now would be the perfect time to reflect the rich browns and almost-metallic golds of the season. Don’t mind if I do!

This dress by Marie Zélie is made in the same way as all of their pieces–in the EU from high quality natural fibres, with the intention that your dress will last you through every season, and year after year of wear. They eschew the goals and styles of fast fashion, instead determined to create feminine, classic pieces that will never go out of style and always make you feel fabulous.
This Melania dress is nothing if not a timeless piece, able to be styled for any season, of course, but also every situation. On a hot summer’s day it would be cool and quick to throw on when you need to rush to the store, yet for a lazy day in spring a pair of simple ballet flats, a single fakelite bangle and a belt will look stylish and casual. Autumn allows you to start layering in knee high boots, the perennial trench coat and possibly even coloured tights, while making a statement in winter is as easy as going full snow bunny with layers and faux fur shawls, muffins, hats–whatever you fancy! You can also dress it up with gorgeous vintage jewellery and hats, seamed stockings and some killer heels. Your creativity is the limit of how this dress can serve you.
The Melania design is straight-forward; a boat neckline, short sleeves, and a gently gathered skirt made in oxford cotton. Said skirt lays beautifully without a petticoat (as pictured,) and I would even go so far as to say, petticoat-lover that I am, that this dress doesn’t need a petti ever. If you can’t bear to go without one it would take a slim volume petticoat, but the shape of this dress just doesn’t require one in order to shine.
Marie Zélie produce their items in European sizing, which I’m totally unfamiliar with, but a quick check of the size chart assured me I needed the size 46 in this dress, thus that is what I asked for. The size chart is spot on, with the bust flat measuring 110cm (43.3 inches) while the waist measures 96 cm (37.8 inches.) The sleeves were 15 inches in circumference, which is too tight across my 16 inch upper arms so I did have to alter them slightly to get the best fit for me, so do bear that in mind if you have large upper arms like I do. The skirt is 28 inches long.
The Melania dress comes in 4 colours, or in 9 prints in the long sleeve version. Discount code miss_amy10 gets you 10% off until January 31st 2021 across their store, and can be combined with other promotions.
