Sheer Little Dots [Dolly & Dotty]

There’s always something special about a little black dress, but I think this time of year especially they come into their own. The fact that a LBD can be elevated with the fun of using different fabrics and textures makes them even more wonderful, so I’m a big fan of a black dress that utilizes lace, velvet, even sheer elements. This Elizabeth dress by Dolly & Dotty, therefore, is just what I’m looking for to feel glamorous and moody as the evenings darken and the temperature cools.

Dress: Elizabeth black dress gifted by Dolly & Dotty
Bolero: Belle bolero by Collectif
Hat: Black Straw Headband Disc Hat previously gifted by Unique Vintage A/L
Gloves: eBay A/L (lace cuffs removed)
Heels: Old – Similar
Bag: Previously gifted Lola Von Rose boxbag

There are so many marvelous aspects of this dress. The skirt, featuring box pleats, lays beautifully, providing an excellent shape even worn alone, and making a vintage-tastic bell shape with only a medium-slim petticoat (as I’m pictured wearing here,) moving in a truly lovely way. The sheer panel above the solid black of the sweetheart bust is darling with it’s polka dots, yet it’s still modest.

For this outfit I wanted to layer in as many sheer elements as I could, opting for the lace gloves and sheer bolero, but I love that a simple cardigan would bring a little more of a casual feel to this dress. Even better, you could layer a long sleeve top underneath for extra warmth and the fun of showing a colour through the sheer fabric, but you could also go to the full length of creative layering and wear this dress over a collared shirt or even a pussybow blouse! There are so many ways to have fun with it, and I very much intend to.

This dress comes with a fabric tie belt and closes with a centre back zipper topped with a hook and eye. I asked for it in my usual Dolly & Dotty size 18. The waist flat measures 36 inches without much give, while the bust flat measures 42 inches with stretch to almost 47 inches. The skirt is 26 inches long.

The Elizabeth dress comes in UK sizes 8-26, in 5 colours/prints. Dolly & Dotty are a small brand based in Brighton, England, but ship around the world.
