The vintage-lovers community has a lot of overlap with several other aesthetic communities, one of the most popular of which–or so it seems to me–is the ~*witchy*~ community. That’s never been a vibe that’s interested me, but I’ll tell you what, today’s gown can veer witchy-cute as well as full Hollywood glam and I’m totally here for it.
Dress: Black & Stars Farrah Maxi dress gifted by Unique Vintage (A/L)

I’ve never been someone who’s particularly partial to star prints, but my god, I love this dress. I’m not even sure I can adequately express how much I adore it, but let’s give it a try. The elegant a silhouette? LOVE it. The brain-exploding level of comfort there is in wearing it thanks to the soft fabric and elasticated waist? SO OBSESSED. All the gorgeous flowy material in the skirt which makes me feel like both an fashioned movie star but also a ball-attending princess when moving around in it? Very surprisingly INTO IT. The fun of the shimmer to the stars, both big and small, and how easy it is to layer up as many jewels as you want to get twinkly as hell? FUCK YEAH, I’m on board.
It is, most simply put, a marvelous dress, and because it’s the superlative of both comfort and glamour it’s shot right to the top of the list of dresses I’m debating wearing on Christmas Day. The elasticated waist can be cinched as tight as you’d like with the attached fabric tie belt, and the wrap-over style top is fixed at said waist so there’s no awkward adjustments needed or any gape-checks required. There’s a gentle but pleasing volume in the full sleeves before they taper elegantly into cuffs, secured with 3 tiny matching fabric-covered buttons. The fabric is a little sheer, so while the skirt is lined you can choose whether you want to get a bit sexy depending on what you do or don’t wear underneath it on top. The skirt has additional fabric side panels as a top layer, which somewhat mimic the effect of a true wrap dress, only intensified into a feel like you’re wasted if you’re not waltzing.
This Farrah maxi dress isn’t a brand new style for Unique Vintage, who have made this shape in several floral prints this summer, but this starry version is just perfect for the holidays, and all other special events. I was completely torn between whether I wanted this black version or the green starry version, both beyond beautiful, and now I’m so infatuated with the black version I wish I could nab both!
I asked for this in the 2X, which tends to be my usual UV size. There’s ample room in it, enough that I think sizing down would have worked too, but I like that it’s a comfortable fit all over, especially since sleeved dresses can sometimes cause issues on me through the shoulders and upper arms. This dress, comparatively, is like flouncing about in a glittery dream. The bust flat measures roughly 44 inches but due to it’s wrap-over style I’d say it could work easily for up to 50 inch busts, as my 46 inch bust has no problem and could even fit in a push up bra without issues. The waist is 37.5 inches flat with elastic stretch to up to 56 inches–there isn’t a zip or any buttons, so it’s a pull on over the head number.
The Farrah Stars maxi dress comes in black and green, in sizes XS-5X. The Farrah maxi also comes in a black lace version or several other plain coloured and patterned versions.
