There are some things that just feel extra special when done in autumn; drinking hot chocolate, going for a brisk walk in nature, digging out your favourite cosy cardigans and blankets, and wearing certain colours. Sure, jewel tones look great all year round, but burgundy, in autumn, when the leaves on the ground act as a gradient of colour building in pigment towards the same maroon you’re wearing–well, that’s a fall delight.

This Midge dress from Unique Vintage, no doubt named after the namesake character in The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, is just as marvelous. It may be simple but it’s also versatile, comfortable and available in 5 colours, so what more could you ask for, really?

If you told me flattery was the number one goal in designing this dress I would believe you. Boasting a sweetheart neckline, the darted bust meets in the centre with a faux-buttoned tab that adds a touch of visual interest while the shape flatters the décolletage. The short sleeves begin wide on the shoulder, where they’re elasticated, allowing both ease of movement and a certain level of adjustment in placement of wear–a little off the shoulder action? If you wish.

As this dress is made from a stretch blend fabric it’s incredibly comfortable to wear. The skirt has pleating at the waist to create an A-line silhouette which is ready to take on a medium volume petticoat happily, allowing you to swish and pose to your heart’s content. It is, in all regards, a lovely and timeless item that can dressed up and down with ease, ready to serve for many an occasion.

I asked for this dress in my usual Unique Vintage 2X and it’s very true to the size chart. The bust flat measures 44 inches with stretch to 48 inches, while the waist flat measures 38 inches with stretch to 42 inches. The skirt measures just shy of 28 inches in length, and the dress closes with a concealed back zip topped with a hook and eye.
