Look, it might not be December yet, but I put up my Christmas tree today and Thanksgiving is out of the way in America so I’m officially calling it–Christmas is coming! Which means it’s time to sparkle, baby!

While I’m a year-round proponent of never saving your clothes for best, there’s something extra special for me in wearing my fanciest, most fabulous dresses during the holiday season. Interesting textures and finishes look particularly wonderful when the world is literally twinklier around you, and this sparkling Martina dress certainly adds to that glittering frivolity.
Made from a material threaded blend, I love that this dress has all the shimmer and shine of sequins and lurex without the itchiness or ease of snagging. It’s a smooth fabric, so it’s a lot easier to layer over it than the aforementioned sequins, and makes for a simpler, more pleasurable wear. It is, quite plainly, a joy, and I’ve already worn it to bring some glitz to the family Zoom call we had recently to celebrate my younger sister’s birthday. Ordinarily this would be a contender for one of my much beloved Christmas events I look forward to every year, but this year I think I’ll have to don it for the digital version of my annual Secret Santa dinner party I host for my best friends, as it would be a waste not to wear it as much as possible even in our current conditions!
With a sweetheart neckline and a sleeveless bodice, it’s ready to flatter as well as to help prevent you from overheating in a room full of revels (if you happen to be a lucky someone who’s living somewhere that got you-know-what under control early.) The full swing skirt holds a full volume petticoat beautifully, but also lays wonderfully with just a slim-medium volume petti as I’m wearing in these pictures. There are also pockets, a Christmas miracle!
This dress isn’t one of Unique Vintage’s own brand items so the sizing is very different and it’s important you get it right. I have a 46 inch bust, so rather than asking for my usual 2X that I wear in UV I followed the size chart and asked for the 4X in this dress. It was far too big on me and I had to take it in by several inches. The waist flat measures 44.5 inches (compared to the size chart’s 41 inches) with stretch to 46 inches, while the bust flat measures 48.5 inches with stretch to 51 inches. It’s a gorgeous dress that is a joy to wear and I would happily recommend it to anyone who’s fallen in love with it, but I would definitely recommend you size down one to two sizes because it does run very large against the chart. The skirt is 30 inches long.

That is so crazy about the sizing! The description even says it has no stretch. Hmm well that is definitely not the case! WOW! I wonder if all of the sizes run that large or if its just the extra lovely ladies in 1X and up. I know that happens sometimes. Either way, crazy! Can I suggest you leave a review on the site so others know too? I noticed there aren’t any reviews yet and their description is so off the mark! We must warn the others! LOL

I was trying to decide if leaving a website review was the best option but then I figured it would be best to get the size chart altered, if need be, to remove the confusion entirely, so I’ve passed it on to the UV team and they’re going to look into it. I’m keeping an eye on the product pages so if the size chart gets changed I’ll update this post to reflect that 💕

Wow this dress is so Extra it should have it’s own Equity card 😀 😀 😀 you look fabulous and I salute and adore your commitment to keep the glamour flag flying high even in grotty old 2020.
I’ll definitely be bringing out my cosy velvets and checks along with a bit of red lipstick to try and keep the spirits up this month, but full on glam duo-chrome sparkles is *totally* next level and you deserve a round of applause!
You look wonderful and you’ve inspired me to try to be a bit less “hoody sportswear and PJs” and a bit more “bold lip and shiny bright attitude” this December x x x

Aww, that’s so lovely, thank you for such a nice comment. I will certainly still be enjoying the comfort and cosyness of my PJs this month, especially after work! But I’m excited to get a bit dolled up more than I’ve been able to these past few months, and I hope you enjoy doing that as much as I intend to 🙂 Happy holidays, lovely!
