Florals upon florals is what I’m all about right now, because my favourite part of spring is watching all the flowers take their turn. Seeing the daffodils spring up makes my drive to work much more pleasant, watching as all the blossoms begin to fuzz up the trees and hedgerows in white and soft pinks makes my heart happy, and by the time we get to bluebells season I’m fully content. We’ve got a little time before the latter is here in full force, but my god, wearing a pretty floral dress near some blossoms is one of life’s simplest joys for me these days.

This dress reminds me of what it felt like when I first began dressing in vintage fashions–my joy at discovering that the prints felt so much more vibrant and clear than anything I’d been seeing on the high street, the dress cuts so much more flattering. Finding vintage inspired clothing felt like a revelation but also a reminder, the whisper of something comforting and familiar, because it was–from photos and textbooks, movies and news reels. The style made sense to me because it had always been my personal pinnacle of sartorial elegance, and realising it was still possible to dress that way now was a relief. Something about the blue of this dress, the earnest sweetness of the floral print, the darling sweetheart neckline, takes me right back to my early pinup days, and it’s a delight.
This dress shape is truly one of those classic cuts that works for practically everyone. The neckline looks good on all bust sizes, while the gathers in the shoulder straps lead to a cap sleeve that provide ample bra strap coverage. Fitted through the bodice, the full swing skirt swirls out to give achieve that cinched-waist, full-skirt 1950s shape we love, with room for a medium-full petticoat underneath. The floral print showcases all manner of greens and pinks alongside flashes of white on the blue background, so there’s a dozen colour pairing options to play with.
I asked for this dress in a size 20. The waist flat measures 39 inches with stretch to 42, while the bust flat measures 47 inches with stretch to 51. The skirt is 28 inches long and has pockets in the side seam. This dress closes with a hidden back zip and is machine washable.
The Jolene Floral dress comes in UK sizes 8-26 as well as in kids sizes from years 3-4 to 11-12. Hearts and Roses London ship worldwide and have stockists all over the globe.
