I think if I had to choose a favourite gingham colour I would have to–after much lip chewing and frowning–choose yellow. A yellow gingham just feels so undeniably happy to me, all sunshine and bright smiles in a way that immediately summons good vibes and great memories. And would you look at that, today we’re going full on yellow gingham.

The Poppy dress is a sleeveless shirtdress, featuring a collar and functional buttons that trail down the centre of the bodice. The skirt is a flared style, slimmer to the hips than a gathered or pleated skirt, so it’s a perfect cut for lovelies who prefer to have less fabric in their swing skirts. There’s still room for a slim-medium volume petticoat, however, as demonstrated by these pictures, in which I am wearing just such a petticoat.

Made from 100% cotton, this dress is surprisingly soft to the touch, in addition to offering the obvious cooling benefits during hot weather wear. It’s a casual and sweet style, easy to layer both over and under to extend its wear for cooler days too–I know I’ll certainly be layering pussybow blouses underneath as well as the obvious of cardigans and cropped jackets atop it. And that gingham–well, it almost goes without saying how happy that yellow gingham makes me! Bold, bright and beautiful, it is summer epitomized.

I wear a size 18 in Dolly & Dotty’s stretchier pieces but in their non-stretch items my bust needs their size 20, which is what this 100% cotton number required this time. It’s true to the size chart, flat measuring 48 inches in the bust and 41 inches in the waist. The skirt is 26.5 inches long. This dress comes with a thin white faux leather grommet belt and is machine washable. It closes with with a hidden back zip.
