Matchy Matchy [Miss Candyfloss]

There are many things Miss Candyfloss do beautifully, one of them being that they produce gorgeous matching sets–sometimes it’s a jacket and a skirt, an expected pairing that many vintage inspired clothing companies offer. But sometimes it’s a jacket that matches a jumpsuit, or a dress, or even two dresses. For vintage lovers it allows us to create an outfit that feels authentically vintage and sartorially elegant with ease. Today we’re looking at just such a set, the Kimmie-Gia dress and Samira-Gia jacket.

Dress: Kimmie-Gia gifted by Miss Candyfloss
Jacket: Samira-Gia gifted by Miss Candyfloss
Bag and brooch: Vintage

The print focal in this set is divine, with leaves comprised of mustard, cream, and salmon details outlined with crisp black and set against a mint backdrop. The stem of each branch of leaves is solid mustard with an emerald green drop shadow. That may sound like a lot of colours on one pattern but they work together harmoniously to create a soft summer print that doesn’t feel overwhelming or bold, only unique. The dress boasts the print in full, broken up by the solid green grommet belt to cinch the waist, while the jacket is made in that same solid green with the print utilised as a contrasting detail on the sleeve cuffs, the bow detail on the pockets, and the roll collar. In all, the use of the contrasting print and the solid emerald across both pieces creates a well-thought out and cohesive look that feels truly vintage.

Both pieces are made in linen, so they’re a cool, lightweight wear for the warmer months. They can, of course, be worn with other pieces as well as alone–well, you’ll have to wear something with the jacket or else you’ll get arrested. The Kimmie-Gia dress is made to fit well, with a series of darts in the centre bust that you might recognise from other Miss Candyfloss dresses, like the Korrina-Minty. It’s a small but unusual design detail that I absolutely love, echoed in a gathering detail on the shoulders. Kimmie is sleeveless, with a V-neckline and fitted through the bodice. The pleated skirt is full and boasts pockets.

The Samira jacket is equally as gorgeous, which comes as no great surprise because Miss Candyfloss produce the best fitting jackets I’ve ever worn. Cut to flatter, the jacket fits close through the torso so it hugs the waist and flares gently as it touches the upper hip. There’s pleating at the shoulders, and the contrast print on the cuffs and pockets is sewn to look like chic bows. The 3/4 length sleeves provide coverage from the sun, or a little added warmth if a hot day turns chilly later on. The functional buttons are fabric covered to match the subdued emerald green of the jacket. If you aren’t one for dresses but love the idea of wearing this jacket as a suit set, Miss C have also made a pair of swing trousers in this same fabric so you can match away to your hearts content.

I received both pieces in a 2X and they’re a perfect fit. The waist on the dress flat measures 38 inches with give to 39.5, while the bust flat measures 44 inches with room for up to 46.5 inches. The dress closes with a hidden side zipper, and the skirt is 28 inches long. The jacket measures 45 inches flat in the bust with stretch to 48.5 inches. The waist lays flat at 38.5 inches with stretch to 40.5 inches. The sleeves are graded up brilliantly through the plus size, as Miss Candyfloss are pros at doing, as they measure 18 inches across the bicep with stretch to 20. The jacket closes by the central buttons.

The Kimmie-Gia dress and Samira-Gia jacket both come in sizes XS-5XL. Miss Candyfloss ship worldwide, and have select stockists across the globe, both in stores and online.
