Backpack, But Make it Vintage [Ecosusi]

Last Year Ecosusi kindly gifted me one of their Cambridge backpacks, a bag that can be used as either a backpack or a shoulder bag depending upon where you attached the strap(s), or can even carried as a briefcase sans straps. It was the first time I’d ever seen a bag that had been designed with such versatility in mind and I absolutely adore that aspect of it, especially since it was a lovely tan brown colour which pairs beautifully with half of my wardrobe. I decided I wanted the same bag in black (to achieve the perfect match to the other half of my wardrobe) so I checked to see if they made it in other colours. Sadly they didn’t, but during my search I discovered this maroon laptop bag, a near perfect match to one of my favourite pairs of boots—and if you know me, you know I love to get matchy-matchy. Considering they had a Halloween sale on at the time, it didn’t take long for me to transfer my ‘I need a black backpack’ wish to this bag instead. And lo and behold, I love it as much as my first Ecosusi bag! (Will I still be checking out Ecosusi in future to see if they ever make the kind of black satchel backpack I want? Of course!)

Bag: Maroon Laptop bag by Ecosusi*
Dress: Cabernet Barbara dress previously gifted by Joanie Clothing
Bangles: Tortoiseshell and old Golden Espresso bangles by Splendette
Boots: Old Burgundy Cecily boots by JustFab
Belt: Old Primark

Like my other Ecosusi bag, the straps on this bag are not only adjustable for length but also detachable by way of sturdy antique-gold toned clips, so you can wear this bag as a backpack or you can change the strap length and attach one strap to only the top rings on the back of the bag to create a shoulder strap. It’s also possible to wear it without straps and carry it by the handle on the top of the bag.

The bag opens with a rectangular rotating lock. Unfortunately there’s no zip along the top inner of the bag in order to make me feel more secure about wearing it as a backpack in crowded public places, but this here country mouse is almost never in such places so in reality it won’t make a noticeable difference to the frequency of use for me. There’s a slim compartment on the outer bottom front of the bag which fastens with magnetic closures hidden under two decorative buckles, opening up to a pocket large enough to fit an A5 notepad.

Inside the main body of the bag there’s a zipped wall compartment against the front inside of the bag, attached to which is two open wall pockets to help keep track of your smaller items. The main inner compartment comprises the majority of the remaining space, but there’s one more more spacious wall compartment attached to the back wall of the bag large enough to fit a laptop up to 14 inches, plus its charging cable. This compartment is topped with a thick black elastic strap that closes with velcro to help hold your laptop securely in place. There’s a final open wall compartment on the outer back of the bag. In all, there’s tons of places for you to store all your knick-knacks, making this bag especially great for daily use for work or schooling.

This style is made from faux leather but it’s a sturdy, strong construction that feels like it will last well. The bag is 14.5 inches tall, handle not included, 12 inches wide across the base (which is half an inch wider than the top,) and 4.4 inches deep across the base, but just shy of 3 inches deep across the top as the depth tapers gently throughout the bag. The length of the straps can be adjusted by moving the buckle between 9 different holes punched throughout the strap, creating a strap of 22 inches at it’s shortest length and 34 inches at its longest.

Shipping for orders is calculated at checkout dependant upon value of the order but when I ordered this bag the shipping was free, and I didn’t get hit with a customs charge when it arrived either, which is pretty rare for overseas purchases delivered to the UK. I’ll certainly be ordering from Ecosusi again once I spot a black bag in my preferred style.

The Maroon Laptop bag is one of Ecosusi’s many bags that can be worn in 3 different ways. Ecosusi ship worldwide and are currently offering some discounts for Black Friday.
