Apple of My Eye [Love UR Look]

I know I’m an adult (technically, by age, perhaps not so much by personality)–but I hold a grudge against apples. They make me sort of grumpy, likely to pull a stubbornly ill-accommodating face like a 6 year old offered spinach. I am known to describe powdery apples as ‘tasting of disappointment and hell.’

It’s because during phases of my life when I was determined to be several dress sizes smaller than it is naturally comfortable for me to be, I ate so many apples that I am now permanently sick of them…in their natural form. In an apple pie or a crumble, however? Apples and I are very definitely friends again then. In a strudel, for sure, load me up. Apple danish, fritters, muffins–basically any way in which you can take an apple and improve upon it by caking it in sweetened crusts, batter and actual cake, I am entirely on board. But off a tree? No thank you, only to pose with for adorable late summer photos.

Well, as it happens I’ve found another way I don’t mind apples: wearing them. Namely, in the form of the Love UR Look Green Apple Shirt dress. It’s cute, it’s quirky, and it has the added benefit of not potentially widening my waistline like my other preferred servings of apples are likely to do.

Dress: Green Apple Shirt Dress C/O Love UR Look
Brooch: Red Poppy Field by Erstwilder
Bracelets: Wine Carved Fakelite bangles & Red Clear Bangles by Splendette
Shoes: Hand bedazzled by me (tutorial)

This kind of unusual print feels authentically vintage to me, especially in this muted olive green that tends to get overlooked in modern fashion. It’s such a unique, interesting piece, which is exactly what Lore Ur Look are known for, with their hand designed fabrics and their outstanding feature necklines.

The Apple shirt dress has three quarter length sleeves finished with a large olive button and comes with a matching fabric belt. It closes with a side zipper and the shirt buttons are all real and workable. The entire dress is lined, even through the pleated skirt, which features pockets and can fit a medium volume petticoat.

My other Love Ur Look pieces in the past have been size L but I requested sizing up into the XL this time as dresses with long sleeves tend to fit tightly on me in the shoulders, upper arms and bust, making for an uncomfortable wear. The size chart for Love UR Look’s XL is for 39-40 inches in the bust and 32.5-34 inches in the waist. My actual XL dress flat measures 36-37 inches in the waist and 42-44 inches in the bust, with limited give in the heavy weight 100% cotton fabric. In the sleeves the arm hole measures 18 inches flat and I measured 15-16 inches in the upper arm. As you can see from those measurements, there’s extra room cut into this dress to account for the lack of stretch in the fabric for this style of dress, but if you’re between sizes or find a tight fit on shirt dresses uncomfortable then you may want to size up. Doing so in this piece made it a perfectly comfortable wear for me.

The Green Apple Shirt Dress is available in sizes XS-XXL1 (equivalent to UK sizes 6/8 to 18/20) and costs £60. All Love UR Look’s pieces are ethically made and available for internationally delivery.12
