Of Pleats and a Bow [Hell Bunny]

You might recognise this dress as one of last winter’s bestsellers for Hell Bunny. I missed out on it in my size back then in all three colours it came in, black, navy and green, all of which I loved and found it hard to choose between. I loved it then and I love it now, so I was very excited to learn my chance to own it had not entirely disappeared. Behold and rejoice, for Hell Bunny has some stock left on their website! Ladies who, like me, thought this dress was long gone will want to act fast because it’s even lovelier than I had hoped.

This dress is everything. It’s not often I like a high neckline dress because I tend to feel they aren’t as flattering on me as something with a lower neckline but this Madison is designed to perfection. The pleated front bodice, the centered false button stand featuring fabric covered buttons, the three quarter length sleeves and, of course, that sweet fabric bow on the left hand of the neckline all come together to create a feminine, demure and lovely dress. It evokes the feel of true vintage with none of the worry of a disintegrating seam or dodgy zip. It’s a versatile dress I can get wear out of all year round here in mild old England, which is wonderful to be able to do without having to add a cardigan for arm coverage when needed. It is, gloved hands down, a winner.

The whole time I’ve wanted this dress I pictured it being a fine non-stretch fabric so I was delighted to realise it’s made from a crepe style fabric that has comfortable give and ease of movement. It closes with a centre back zip and the pleated skirt can take a slim volume petticoat to achieve a nice gentle lift away from the legs.

Regarding sizing, it runs fairly true to Hell Bunny’s usual generous sizing. This size 16/XL flat measures 35.5 inches in the waist with stretch to 38 inches, while the bust runs from 41-46 inches. The skirt is 27 inches long. The only concern I had before I tried it on was whether the sleeves would be tight on my large upper arms but they’re perfectly comfortable given the stretch in the fabric. The only restricted part of the sleeve is the double cuff, which measures 12.25 inches in circumference with no stretch, but as this hits below the elbow it likely won’t be a problem for most people.

The Madison dress is still available in select sizes and colours from Hellbunny.com (discount code AMYMAY20!% gets you 20% off all orders) but you might also find some stockists have some pieces left if you do any further researching.

    • Thank you Hun! I always err on the side of simplicity when I style outfit but I often forget how many extra options cold weather provides for accessorising so I get quite excited when I remember to delve into them, lol

  1. I bought this dress in green earlier this year as I wanted something to help quell the nerves and make me feel confident when I conducted my first face to face academic interviews. It certainly did the job and 3 of the candidates actually complimented me on it too!
