You may recognise this print from my review several weeks ago of the Hell Bunny Antonia dress. For that post I highlighted how well the print works for a moody, winter styling. I love said print so much that I couldn’t help but snap up the skirt version as well, but for its review I wanted to wait until we were approaching spring to show you how well this print could be styled for sunshine and warmth too. Sure the background is black, the roses rich and red, but there’s nothing about spring that says decadence and elegance must be forsaken for lighter, sweeter florals. Antonia really is ready to be worn year round.

This skirt is, in one word, lovely. In many more, it is: gathered and voluminous, dainty and striking, timeless and, my favourite, bepocketed. Not technically a word, sure, but if novelists and playwrights can invent words on the page then I’m sure I can do it on a blog, right? So take note, bepocketed.
This rose print is still one of my favourites, not only of those I’ve worn but also of all those I’ve ever come across. I love that the roses vary in size and placement, settling somewhere between feeling truly random and strictly patterned. The skirt cut itself is wonderful, the gathers giving incredible volume even with very little aid. I wore only a slim volume petticoat for these pictures but as you can see it created a full bell shape as though I was wearing a much fuller petti.
The skirt closes with a hidden centre back zipper topped with a standard black button. The pockets are located in the side seams and are easy to find–something that may sound odd, but I’ve had many a skirt or dress where the pockets somehow managed to evade my hands almost every time I reached for them. Say what you want, but placement does make a difference.
I asked for this skirt in the 18/2XL, my usual Hell Bunny size. The waist flat measures 37.25 inches with no stretch at all and the skirt is 26.5 inches in length. If you’re unfamiliar with Hell Bunny’s sizes then I suggest you check their size chart before buying this little number, as the 100% cotton fabric means there’s zero stretch. It is, however, machine washable.
